Tavor FAQ (updated 08 December, 2008)

Wondering if I should take it to a gunsmith or just change the bolt from right to left myself. I’m a bit far from most shops.

You can do it yourself, you don't even need the barrel wrench to do it. It a simple process of swapping the bolt and switching the various parts to opposing sides. There's a pile of videos on the youtube, it's a 15 minute job.

You will need a barrel tool in order to pull the barrel and change which side the dust cover on the gas block is in order to change the charging handle.

I’ve watched the ratworx vid(among others) on YouTube several times. .22s and sks’ are nice and easy just the X95 is a different animal. I’ll order a barrel tool just to have.

Hi i am looking at buying an x95, whats the pros and cons. I have trained extensively on an Aus steyr. so familiar with bull pups. i have read a lot about the "accuracy issues" of the tavor. whats your experience. thanks

I got a TAR21 to take the place of my AUG that I can no longer take out and shoot. It's just not the same. The balance is completely different, but the trigger is better.

One thing that screwed me up was removing the magazine. Every time for the first little while I'd drop the bolt instead.

Auggie D.

There is no accuracy issue with the Tavor / X95. It shoots as well as its designed to shoot. The only real issue is people wanting bolt action rifle accuracy from a rifle that was originally designed for CQB.

If your familiar with a Aug then you already know the pros and cons of a bullpup. X95 / Tavor isn't much different.

thanks that is true. each weapon can have quirks. And thanks Auggie D played with a x95 never shot one.

I get a very consistent 2.5MOA from my X95, sometimes better, using a 2MOA red dot. I think that's pretty good, personally. I use M193.

My X95 is also the latest gen, as you can tell by the IDF charging handle, gas regulator hole in the top rail, and dual extractors. There's been rumor that IWI changed the way they crowned barrels to improve the accuracy, but I don't know how true that is. I got comparable accuracy out of my TAR21, but I find my X95 is more consistent.

Excuse my noobness. Bought two left hand bolts from two different suppliers. 2nd one just came in and looks different then the one I installed. How can I tell the differences between a right and left hand bolt? Tried google but couldn’t find proper pics of a bolt from each end.

Look at which way it ejects the round. If you take a spent case and put it on the bolt face, it will pop off in a direction.
