HELP! I have a new Tavor and it has been slam firing on me. It also went kinda full auto and shot two rounds at once. I've been using factory 55 grain FMJ Winchester and factory 55 grain FMJ American Eagle ammo. I have about 300 rounds through the riffle and this has happened 4 times. Worst of all, I had a slam fire during a 3 gun match. My finger was off the trigger and the video like proves it.

Please, why is my brand new $3000 dollar riffle doing this? The supplier thinks it's soft primers in the ammo. What ammo do you run in your Tavor? Has this happened to anyone else?

Dude the look on your face is priceless after it slam fires into the dirt. I love the slow mo holy ####. Again, more reason to always practice safe handing of firearms. Glad no one was hurt. I see no reason it should be slam firing on those primers. Never head of any issues with the Federal but have heard of some with Win, but in AR's not Tavors.

I would check a chambered unfired round to see if there is any mark from firing pin.

If there is any kid of indent sounds like it could be problem with Tavor.

I am not sure of the design but I had a pistol that slam fired on occasion and I cured problem with extra power firing pin spring.

Light firing pin impressions may not be the issue. All AR's produce a light mark on chambered rounds. The question is whether or not the Tavor has a floating firing pin like AR's or does it use a firing pin return spring.

I only had a slam fire once. It was with a friend's reloaded ammo and it was because he had used soft primers. It happened with three rounds in a row and I immediately unloaded and took a look at my AR. He then tried it with his and it fired as soon as he cocked hi rifle. We tried factory ammo and the problem did not persist. After that I never fired his reloads ever again.

Didn't the firing pins on the Tavor have to be installed by the purchaser? Are you sure you installed it correctly? Could it be that there is some form of abstruction in the firing pin channel that is causing it to not move properly? Did you lube it?

The Tavor was my first semi so I wanted to make sure I installed the firing pin correctly. I tested the Tavor with Win white box, AE hollow point, AE BT, and Remington FMJ, and tried to get the Tavor to slam fire.
Well, no slam fire during the test with all the ammo.
I am into my 450 rounds count on the Tavor. There were 2 doubles fires and I was using the Remington FMJ ammo.

You may be onto something here...the firing pins came NOT installed, but I am sure I read that they only go in 1 way. Lube maybe problem like you said.

Regardless of the problem...I am pretty sure CanAm will look after it.

So that makes two guys with slam fires?

I've read that military primers are harder than comercial stuff...don't know if this is a load on BS or not...but perhaps the design was for the harder primers?

Is there any grease in the firing pin channel when it comes from the factory?

I have heard of this in other rifles when using cheap Winchester ammo. Try surplus South African? I'm sure CanAm will be sourcing out surplus ammo accordingly.

Please PM me where I can get SA Surplus in .223/5.56, but PM no one else! Seriously, whats your line in on it if any?

I just got a new credit card with 5K of open money waiting for that boat with CanAms container of ammo that is tied up in red tape in the origin country. Seriously...

I have a feeling that the firing pin is not installed correctly. Clobbersauras is on to something. I've used so far Remington UMC and Winchester FMJ with excellent results.

Sounds about par for the course with this rifle. I have about 1500+ factory rounds through this rifle (FC AE55gn, LC AE55gn, UMC 55gn) all have had doubles (UMC had a triple). Keep in mind that there was no oil (nor grease) on the firing pin, all were after at least the 10th pistol mag, and I was usually shooting on very hot days. All in all I've had about 7 or 8 slam fires with factory stuff, but when using reloads with magnum primers I didn't have an issue. Basically the Tavor has a very aggressive floating firing pin and if you don't want slam fires (and you will get them if you shoot it enough) use mil-spec ammo, or perhaps grease (not oil) on the firing pin would help.
