Tavor vs AR

A guns only good if you can shoot it :) if the range is closed your AR looks cool sitting in your gun safe all locked up for safety while Tavor owners are out enjoying the outdoors and shooting their gun. A range only weapon is pretty much pointless, I just saw a message on one of the local gun stores windows saying you cannot shoot FMJ bullets at the local range and you will be banned if you do. Doesn't that pretty much end the use of the cheap bulk ammo you can buy ?

I can shoot FMJ at my range. And even though I can shoot my XCR anywhere, I mostly shoot at my range anyway. Its safe there. Though it is 100% legal to shoot NR black rifles on private property or crown land they can attract alot of unwanted attention, and you might find yourself getting punished by process if they get confiscated. As for the Tavor, bullpups never fancied me. Something about the bolt/chamber being right beside my face doesnt sit well with me.

Don't worry about that much with a Tavor or RFB, they are designed to direct the energy away from you if the worst happened. I might be concerned with the T-97 though. I'd have to have a closer look at one of those.

As for the unwanted attention, I won't let them stop me from doing something perfectly legal. Maybe a few court cases where firearms were wrongfully confiscated will highlight just how ignorant most cops are when it comes to firearms and force some changes in their training. If I ever do get stopped I plan to calmly explain to them that the rifle is perfectly legal and is non restricted and they are welcome to take the model and serial number and run it through their database. My rifles won't be getting confiscated without them bringing their supervisor out to site to explain to me why a non restricted firearm is being taken from me. I have nothing to hide, I follow the laws and expect to be treated fairly if stopped.
You paid good money for that rifle, get out and use it responsibly wherever it's legal to do so.

I just shot a T97 today.... All I can say is I will never buy one....

And I had no issues hitting the 200Y gong with my Tavor or my Mosin M38 for that matter... lol...

^^ I agree, tried t97 before and didn't like it.
But Tavor and RFB is a different story. I try to shoot more and more in the field,
so I sold my AR a while ago, Tavor seams to satisfy my needs just fine in the field or at the range.

I like how the OP hasn't posted once since he started this 9-page thread. So, LMWIS, what are your thoughts?

After much deliberation, and handling of several AR's (mostly Colt) I went with the Tavor. I liked the feel better, and I admit I was swayed by the NR designation. The AR definitely has advantages, but in the end it still winds up imprisoned at the range.

I topped the Tavor off with an Eotech and can put the holes where I want. (I guess all that time shooting DA on the S&W's wasn't wasted!)

This was shot using the factory heavy trigger group at 200 yards. FMJ 55 grainers out of a 1/7 barrel no less. 5 Shot Under 10cm. (3 3/4 inch) Once you get used to it, you can do some decent groups. I suspect that it will only get better with a Timney trigger pack installed when I feel like paying the $300 for one...

The EOTech is a nice addition to the rifle as is the Gearhead works accessories. Their (GHW) customer service is fantastic. Personally called me when I put in my order. I hardly touch the ARs anymore. They just don't feel right after getting used to the Tavor.
