I have priced out a landed at my door cost for an 11.5" 5.56 that I entertained, was $1500 back when the dollar was good and included all Irunguns import fees, etc.

I believe for Canadian Customers he will source the pieces for you since shipping back and forth across the border is either done illegally or expensively.

doesn't sound like much if any savings on a 5.56 as the barrel is so cheap.

If he did 18.6" 450 Bush, 50 Beo, or 7.62x39 drop in assemblies for around that price then we would be on to something.

If you want a restricted length barrel for your NON RESTRICTED ACR then you don't need anything other than the barrel which just so happens to be exactly the same as an AR barrel with a mid length gas system and any machinist can put the cut for the op rod guide into it in an hour. The reason I say this is that since it is illegal to swap in a restricted length barrel without registering the rifle as restricted again you will have plenty of time to swap over the gas system the one time a year you may actually go through the hassle of registering it then having it classed as non restricted again when you want to use the longer barrel again away from the range. There really is no point in having a quick change system setup for two differently classified barrels.
If you have more than one non restricted barrel then having the second gas system and other parts makes a lot more sense.

We are debating cost of complete conversions, and I used a cost of a complete short barrel as a reference point. For all intents and purposes, you are absolutely correct about the short barrel being pointlessly expensive when complete.
 
I have owned the 180b, Tavor, M96, SA CLassic Green, Mini-14, and SL8...my FAVOURITE? The lowly 180b....yes everyone can laugh away, but it was the most FUN to use and hit the gongs, bottles, books, and varmints...no issues and low cost but certainly not a sub 2MOA gun. What is the best semi I have owned regardless of class? The Bushmaster AR with 10.5" medium barrel. Cheapest and best...but restricted due to our retarded laws. There is a reason that they are the most popular in the US. Makes 0 sense considering the list of NR above. I am currently looking to get an ACR as it is supposed to bet the closest thing to the 180b action but supported and more robust built, though I never had an issue with the number of 180b I owned.

Agree, I've owned all those rifles with the exception of the M96, the 180B is an awesome rifle. Light, reliable and accurate enough for field use.
Love my ACR as well and will never sell it or my 180. Both are great, one is a little heavy but more accurate while the other is light and less accurate. Just like anything these days, there are always compromises to be made. Pick the tool that fits you best or buy them all and just have to decide which one to take that day :)
 
I agree with many, buy both or pick the one that suits your intended application.
From the sound of it you will enjoy the ACR more as you want to target shoot, I speculate it will be easier to not disappoint yourself (or your friends) with something like a DMR setup. You will likely end up comparing a service style semiauto rifle with the accuracy of bolt gun.
If you are after positional or action stages (or if you would like to shoot it like a service gun), get the Tavor. Not many standard infantry tactics require the service rifle to have high enough accuracy to pick specific buttons off the bad guy's uniform from 100m. You get a few seconds shooting from various positions running hard to various firing points against multiple targets, maybe after sprinting for 100m, if you can hit something the size of your iPhone you're good to go.
 
I don't think you can put a match barrel on a stock ACR to make it NR and then say the accuracy is better then a Tavor with its stock barrel. I was shooting 1.5ish moa with my Tavor at 100 yards using good ammo and its stock barrel with a match barrel that would shoot 1 moa easily I think
 
Well all my ACR projects just got put on hold. and the money I have aside for a MV will be put towards the APC as well... :)

This is a great time to be Canadian :)
 
Just showed the wife the LAV video, lol. For some reason now I have to get her a new Tattoo :)


I just hope these are in before PM selfie changes the laws. That way Ill have plenty of time to loose it.
