Tell me about Anschutz rifles

You should be tremendously pleased with your new rifle. Anschutz rifles are definitely a step up from CZ's, which are very good rifles, too. I have both. I have an MPR and a 1710 HB, both of which I bought last year, and an older model that is new to me on the way. There are several things that set them apart. One is the fit and finish, which is superior to many rifles. Another factor is the barrels. Anschutz makes great barrels. Finally, the triggers are a heck of a lot better than a CZ trigger, which, incidentally can be easily improved.

I've got a LH 1416 from the 90's ,the forend warped a couple of months after I bought it.
It has never shot as good as you hear an Anschutz is supposed to , but I mostly use HV ammo so I guess I got to live with the fliers.
Trigger is awesome .
Will kill thousands more ground squirrels.

I have a new too me match 64 built in 1975. I also have a cz 452 and 455 varmints. While I have not yet shot the Annie just looking at the 2 side by side the Annie is much better quality. The barrel is huge for a 22lr. The trigger is light and buttery smooth. The Bench rest stock is awesome and looks almost new for a 40 year old rifle. I hope to get out and shoot it soon.

The top rifle is the ultra rare 1907R, the bottom rifle is an older 1408.

My 54MS-R

how does the 54MS-R shoot? I remember they were on sale though Nordic Marksman a few years go, there were 9 in stock and they sold out quickly. I hesitated back then.

I know Anchutz was historically the standard for accuracy, but how do they stand up to modern rimfires ,including mass production savage 22's or even the Norinco NS 522?

I own and have shot both the M54 and M64 in their silhouette trim. Both are excellent rifles. I believe it was the M54 that I used the last time I shot at Nationals.

The 54MS-R was discontinued back in 2009, so it would have been more than a few years ago. That is why very clean used rifles often bring as much or more than they sold for new. As to accuracy, they shoot very well with match ammunition.

As much as some people like their Savage and Norinco rifles, they aren't in the same class as the Anshutz 54. Even if you installed a match barrel, neither Savage or Norinco sells a trigger that is even close to comparing to the Anschutz match triggers.

I have owned BRNO ,CZ, Cooper, Volquartsen, and Anschutz rimfires. and my 54 match rifles have been the most accurate of all. Of the sporting rifles, my Coopers have been very close to the 54, and CZ and BRNO are close as well. Of course you need to use high quality ammunition to notice any difference in accuracy.

I think it's hard to understand what an Anschutz 54 or fortner is until you've actually handled and shot one. Sure you can buy a gem of a gun (savage, cz, marlin, etc..) for around $500 but those rifles are in their own class. They shoot well for what they are but these rifles are not in the same class as the Anschutz and whenever I hear someone saying they are I can basically assume they have never held let alone shot an Anschutz.

Anschutz are excellent rifles. Some of the vintage Win 52s, Rem 37 and 40X are equal. Anschutz, in spite of the 54/30 has lost some ground recently in the match/target rifle line largely due to improved action designs like Bleiker and Grunig & Elmiger. The sporters are holding their own well and Anschutz seems to be pushing more in that direction with the sporterized 1827s and multipurpose rifles. This probably reflects more of what is affecting their bottom line.

After a bit of work my MPR-64 shoots good, out of the box, not so much. I welded the 2pc trigger guard/bottom plate together, epoxied pillars in from the underside then bedded the action on top, its now solid.

I have 2 Anschutz. One is a recent 64 action model and the other one is a 1970's 54 action. Both are used as bench guns and they are both VERY accurate and fun to shoot. Also the built quality and fit and finish is fantastic. I had CZ's rimfire rifles in the past ( 452, 453 and 455). I sold them because shooting my Anschutz is so much better.

Currently have 2 CIL 190s (made by Anschutz), have been shooting them for almost 30 years.
Have only had to replace firing pins and they still shoot great.
Accuracy is great, shoot shorter distance with low velocity ammo.
Awesome guns.

Does anyone know what sort of manufacturing processes make these rifles so accurate?

Whenever my father was sent over to Germany , he would visit with Dieter Anschutz.
As Shooting Sports Development manager fir C. I.L. and a National team member , he naturally shot the 1413 Nd 1418 rifles in competition , and was very interested in the manufacturing processes of these rifles .

He was thoroughly briefed on every aspect of them and was invited into every part if the plant EXCEPT the lapping room!!
It is common knowledge that Anschutz barrels are choke bored , and that, along with a super fast lock time is what had my father convinced about the key to their accuracy .

Dunno about now , but then their barrels were 't threaded, but pinned to the actions - this included their center fire rifles that were built on the 54 action as well.

The only other rifle which comes close to Anschutz in the 64 action is the Weihrauch HW60J.

They are very popular in the UK and a friend of mine who is an ex REME armourer thought of them equal to Anschutz. His shot as well as my 1416DHB!

I wish there was a dealer in Canada for Weihrauch small bore rifles. Seems only air rifles are shipped here?
