Texas cheerleader's 'big game' hunting photos enrage animal lovers-cbc

I am going to start putting up pictures of myself with the dead animals I've shot. Maybe a nice little caption to infuriate the idiots like "not only did I shoot this unsuspecting deer as it was chewing on some grass, I then removed its head in order to mount it on my wall so I will never forget just how awesome I am"

i started doing this with gophers this spring....... i love the meyhem...

Don't need to try to justify yourself to me dude. I choose not to kill animals for fun or whatever thrill you get from it. As a person who eats meat, I do it to be more connected with the process. Nothing self righteous about it, just my take on the issue. You seem to have a trouble dealing with people who have differing opinions as yourself based on your offensive response.

No you are entirely correct I don't nor do I try to............it is you who needs to justify his position not me..........."I do it more to be connected with the process".............and you think my response is offensive..........I have yet to begun on the likes of you. You are a stain on the name of hunting, and your attitude is nothing but a yuppie greenie POS waste of my time...... I have climbed to 18000 ft with my lungs on fire, I have walked for miles in 55 deg C heat until I couldn't walk any longer, I have walked the soles off my feet and my boots were full of blood, I have braved 4 days of -35 to -40 while hunting polar bear, I have spent the night in a hole my buddy and I dug at 8000 ft hunting sheep while a full blown blizzard roared all night, and I was in Aug clothing.
Like I said you are a stain on hunting and should probably find a new forum to post on.............You have not the experience, the age, nor the cahones to criticize me.............THAT I can guarantee!!!

Well said. Some people just don't get it. And for your opponent I suggest a little

Since a minimum safari is 30K plus, i wonder what the haters in the comments spent on conservation lately.

When a Lion kills a tribesmans cow, the Lion looses. The only way these animals survive is by having a value, when safari hunting is gone so are they. Elephants overpopulate and the natives get trampled chasing them out of their crops with a stick and a pot, or starve if they dont. When the safari operator closes down the trackers and employees of his business go back to doing what they did before him...poach for the black market. His business is the only source of income, meat from his clients is the only source of protein in a continent that does not allow firearms ownership since that leads to Coup's and Civil War.

I can understand people being emotional but stopping and thinking about the reality afterwards would be good also.

I'm not a hunter, and I could careless if someone wants to go kill an animal for food or trophy. But I hate seeing people put there fresh kills on FB. It's not the place for it.

Why not? Isn't Facebook supposed to be a place where one can go to keep up to date on the lives of their friends and family? That would include hobbies, sports, family events ..... Maybe that would include a picture of a niece or nephew's first animal harvested, or my brother's trophy fish, wedding pictures or birthday party pictures, pictures of a new pet. All events in the life of a friend or family member.

Love it. No one seemed to notice that she took her lion with a bow. Sounds like she has a bigger set then some posting in this thread who think it is 'just about putting something on the wall'.

Like how all the antis were very reactive....too much emotional response instead of trying to understand first and knowing more about it. If they did, they would easily find out that those same animals would be long gone without the contributing efforts of hunters over the years.

So for the meat hunters who choose to criticize trophy hunting, lets take a step back and examine what we're actually talking about. The meat hunter goes out and shoots his game animal. He might get "fun" out of it or he might not, that depends on his personality, but one wonders why anyone would consider big game hunting for sport, as opposed to subsistence hunting, if they didn't enjoy it. There is nothing morally wrong with a feeling of happiness at the end of a successful hunt. Its built into our DNA, and is necessary for survival in the natural world. We often hear of other predators that kill for fun, lions and wolves particularly; that drive to kill is what makes them successful. For the meat hunter, any legal animal will do, so his investment in time and money when he takes the first legal animal he sees, is obviously not as high as the trophy hunter who seeks a specific animal. It takes much less self discipline to take "Any Deer" as your license says, than to pass up animal after animal in the hopes that you find that special one before the season ends. And therein lies the greatest difference between hunting meat and hunting trophies: the difficulty, the cost, and the self discipline required to hunt a specific animal.

Another consideration is that meat hunting has a greater effect on game populations, than trophy hunting does. First off, by definition, trophy hunters take fewer animals out of any given population than meat hunters do, but additionally, because trophy animals are the oldest, they typically are non-breeding males, whose removal from the herd has no effect on the population. Now in fairness, the activity of meat hunters is an important form of predation as this predation stimulates optimal birth rates, and its those birth rates that guarantee the survival of the game population.

Meat hunters will sometimes point to the trophy hunter as being wasteful, where they themselves leave nothing for the other animals who depend on the death of that one to make a living. One of the wonders of African hunting is to see the appearance of huge numbers of gigantic storks and vultures soon after the butchering begins. You have to wonder, "How did they know?" Wastage is the cry of the anti, who would see the end to all hunting, not just trophy hunting. In the African context, the meat from trophies is used, A) for camp meat, B) used for lion or leopard bait, and C) divided up amongst the camp staff for their personal consumption. Some trophy meat is pretty rank, and would not be considered suitable fare for Westerners, trophy buffalo is a case in point.

In today's world, few people need to hunt in order to survive. Its far less expensive to go to Safeway than it is to hunt Dall Sheep in the Yukon. It is far less expensive to shop at Superstore than it is to hunt musk-ox in Nunavut, and it is far less expensive to shop at Wallmart than it is to hunt elephants in Botswana's Okavango Delta. So when the meat hunter criticizes the trophy hunter, its not about meat, you can get meat anywhere, and if not about meat, what is behind the criticism?

I'm a trophy hunter that skins and capes my own game, I cut and wrap all the meat myself and take great care in the processing and storage of meat and hide.

Are you that connected to your non trophy animal? Fill us in please....,,,

"You have no right to be doing what you are doing in South Africa! This is not your country - leave our big 5 which is very treasured by South Africans and the rest of our wildlife alone, and that too all hunters!" wrote Banitta Watkins, who lives in South Africa.

Actually it is South Africa who gave her permission to do that.
I guess they treasure tourist/hunters dollars more than their wildlife.
What a stupid comment to make! Just to get their names in the papers.

I believe I saw an interview where Zuckerberg stated that he would only eat meat that he killed himself...

So, if he's invited out to dinner or even to the White House for dinner
he would decline eating meat since he didn't kill it himself?
Or would they give him access to butcher whatever meat would be
on the menu?
Just askin'

I saw this on Facebook, the comments are atrocious, people saying they'd like to shoot her in the face, etc, etc.

don't know what is most important with the girl. Getting her own show or the hunt. I suspect she would not know the first thing about hunting but can shoot
Not what I would consider good advertisement for us common folk who just enjoy getting out and maybe seeing some stupid whitetail we can put in the freezer.

Ya and we're supposed to be the crazy ones. Strange how you don't see us hunters and shooters threatening to shoot people in the face and skin them alive for doing things we don't like.

My point is if it's legal its Ok. I'm all for trophy hunting and meat hunting. I'm a meat hunter that holds out for a nice buck. My doe tags get filled but I hold on to my buck tag for a nice deer. This allows me to spend more time in the woods with the animals I chase. Some years I don't fill my buck tag. I never regret passing up on the younger buck. However if I don't have meat in the freezer that spike buck will have a bad day. This system works for me. However if I could afford it I'd be hunting the big 5 and Facebook is the first place I'd post pics. I proudly support hunting and conservation

There's a difference between shooting an animal you are going to use and killing a lion/elephant to put in your den. If you don't understand the fundamental difference, then there's not much I can say to you.

Clearly you have never seen how happy a village of people are when you drop off elephant meat to them. Shooting one trophy elephant results in about $15,000 going directly into the community as a part of the trophy fee and daily rate pay out. Then add the jobs and tips to those employed in the safari camp and then on top of it hand over 3 tons of fresh red meat every couple of weeks. So I hunt and feed a hundred people. You hunt and feed how many? Three or four? Who's the real humanitarian here? My hunting dollars appear to go quite a bit farther than yours.

And if I shoot a 5 year old buck and then chunk him up into the freezer while you punch your tag on the first deer you see, who does more benefit to the overall herd? You're going to remove the genes of a younger deer that has not reproduced yet, or worse you will shoot a doe and eliminate 5-8 deer from joining the herd. All because you're a "meat hunter".

But by all means, don't seek to understand what is going on under the surface and continue to hurl veiled insults at your betters.
