That Made in Canada M203 project...

A couple more silly brainstorming ideas for you guys to shoot down:

- Chemical etching (like on circuit boards)

- old 40mm cannon barrel used as a blank?

I dont think we will ever see a canadian M203 for civies.

I don't think so either. Unless the venture is done to sell in volume to mil and LE the cost per unit will be high.

How many civvies will buy an M203?

Would people accept a 37mm barrel (from a quality manufacturer?)
The US does not beleive the 37mm is a Grenade Launcher - so the 37mm Barrel can be exported.

Sparrow for $4k I will sell a Colt unit

I would accept one if it was the same as a M203 just with a 37mm barrel and not just another cheapo 37mm.

I know, I know... it's sacrilegious.... but it's better than having no launcher at all.

I say build with 37mm barrels or without. As long as the receiver can take a 40mm barrel down the line then no problems.

Yup! what he said

Honestly but I would not care at all if the m203 is rifled and I know ALOT of people who would take one either in 37 or 40mm in a heartbeat.

If you guys made these in this manner you'd sell a ####load rifled or not. Sure there not really M203's because there not rifled but its sure a lot better then the 37mm's out there from Ecetera and the others.

I'd be in for one as well as a friend sure thing.

Without talking about too much, I rifle my projectiles, because my barrel has straight rifling. It's kinda like shooting a slug in a smooth bore shotgun, you just gotta rifle your projectile and it works good. So a smooth bore or straight rifled barrel would work just fine.

Whoa - Away for 4 weeks and all hell breaks loose.

Rifled tubing is a non - starter because the T-slot for the barrel slide would have to be added after. The only way to do that is to weld it on.

Weld will distort the tube, make it un-round (if that is a word) and shrink the 40MM down to say about 39.5 MM....Can we say dangerous pressur levels in an aluminum barrel?

Where is Koldt pics of a guys dismembered hand when you need them?

We are investigating button rifling at the moment, as that seems to be the most cost effective.

CNC is dificult to do at best due to the SLOW ASS twist rate. 1 in 4 feet, the machines feed rate would have to be enormous. To get the surface finish that we need in AL, the barrel would have to turn at about 2K RPM.....so the machine would have to travel @ 8000 FEET per minute. Feed rate is typically measured in INCHES per minute.

Please bear with us, we want this to happen, BUT we want a quality product, that is functional for ALL users, not just Civey apps, If we approach LE/MIL it has to be a real 203, as they will not buy a toy even if it is Cdn made, and if that is the only reason to buy, they could just as well go to Diemaco.

Un-round (un-rownd) : adj : Less than round; not quite roundish; close to round but kinda square; torqued to be less than rounded; angled in a funny way; rectangular but with curved edges so as to solicit the impression of being round, but still not round; to be without shot in a firearm; not chambered; empty and devoid of cartridges;

E.g.: "That thar gun is unrounded"...click..."I told ya it was unrounded"
E.g.: "Them nerds ain't in the clique...they be unround if ya ask me; In fact they are down right squarish"
E.g. "When Nester came home from the hunt, before he put his rifle away he unrounded it"
E.g. "That there cutie is a Carpenter's dream I tell ya"..."Yup you said it; she's unround"

You are investigating button rifling for a 40mm tube because it seems to be the most cost effective?
