The 10 rounds @ 300 yards cgn online challenge.

Do you have access to pin gauges? They are 1" long rods ground to a specific diameter?

When bores erode, definitely the throat (start of the lands) move but the rifling also wears thinner. That caught me one time cause it looked like there was rifling near the throat but it had thinned enough to allow the bullets to skip.

By using pin gauges, you can drop them into the throat and they will stop when they get to the bore diameter. Measure from the root of the chamber, agree with where you think the lands should be.. all good. Not so good when they fall into the barrel and go beyond where you expect the rifling to be. Cheap and simple way to diagnose bore wear.

The US army had a cartridge/throat gauge that worked on the same principle.. I saw them as armourers tools for Garands and such.

Bore scopes work great for this too but they can be pricey and a pin gauge is a 2 sec check.

Good luck with your testing... hope you find a new load.

Shot this a few weeks ago now but just got imgur up and running. Rifle is a 6.5x47 lapua on a Remington M700 action. Load was 39.0gr N550 with a 130 Berger jammed into the lands. Scope is a 4-16×44 vortex.

Was out forming some brass and playing with the edge today.

Forming some bertam 338 edge brass into the ai. I had 7 rounds left over of fully formed brass, and let another 25 fly today. 300gr berger with 88.5gr of h1000.

Fired a group with the 33nos forming brass (long storey but I had the rifle before there was any brass in canada- so all of mine is formed from 26 or 30 which is a pita). Group wasnt so hot- 5.1" so I didnt write anything on the target. Also figured out that the tips on the 265 LRX were taking a beating in the mag, a few were missing tips, single loaded they were fine, but in the mag it snaps off the tip.

Nice shooting LongBomber!

Thats our first .338 on the board folks. I hope to see more boomers in this thread in the new year.

Got out today finally for a little load development and thought I’d play again with a couple different rifles. All at 300y

NOTICE:
I will be gone for the next several months and will only be able to check this on weekends when I have internet.

Please be patient as it may take me a bit of time before I get to posts to update the results page.

Cheers,

J.

As soon as we stop getting pounded by snow with rain here in NB, I believe I have a rifle/load combination that I can finally try this with! Pretty excited, hope I can get on the board! :)

Managed to squeeze in under the 2" mark. Picked up some berger 200-20x a couple weeks ago, ran one ladder test and loaded 15 in the "node". Couple to zero and plink with on top of one group. Es/sd numbers not great (33/10) so it needs some tuning, although for 10 shots off the tailgate isn't bad.

Doing load development for my new 6.5x47 Lapua. Did a ladder yesterday, wanted to refine the higher node today. 11 shots from 40gr to 41gr of H4350. Looks like I will need to do it again at 500m....

I will have to see what kind of accuracy I can get out of my savage model 10 .308, picked it up and have only fired 1 round out of the old girl to date myself.
