The 222 Remington Magnum

A good day out with my Model 700 222 Rem Mag

Thanks. These were called. 4 stands, one dry, a double, two singles. 3 at under 150 yards, one at about 250. Shooting prone really increases my accuracy.

Yeah. Very stable while substantially reducing your outline. I’m old and find it very hard on my neck so I use a hogsaddle and tripod that seems to work good and creates a very stable platform. These two developed a taste for Holsteins.

Great picture! Nice shooting!!

Thanks. It was not the time of year for the fur unfortunately. Don’t like to harvest without utilizing the animal but when a farmer calls you with the coyote(brush wolf, coy dogs) whatever killing his cattle. You have to do what you can to help him out. He lets lots of people hunt on the many acres under his thumb. These predators we’re running in a pack as high as 15 and weren’t targeting calves but 900 -1200 pound animals. In less than a week they killed 5 on the same road. All within a 1.5 kilometre stretch. Ended up killing 6 in four hunts. Just hunted over the kills.

Nice. It sure is easier to pull into a ranchers yard and get permission outside of regular hunting season.
Sounds like your farmer friend called the right guy for the job. Getting 6 out of one area is exceptional.

They got smart really quick and turned pretty much nocturnal but two decoys over different kill sights with some challenge calls fooled the last three. The first two in the pic were killed in the first sitting with a single added the next outing then the decoys with calling dragged the last three out with two on the third and the last on the fourth. Blanked on the next two hunts but the farmer reported n more problems. Two more were killed during deer hunting with beautiful coats.

I like the longer neck on the 222mag.
Just like the 222 is probably more accurate the 223, the 222mag would match velocity and be more accurate....with a 1/8 twist.

I have a Steyr Model SL Varmint in .22 Rem Mag. Heavy barrel , set trigger , heavy wood stock
made in 1967. Great rifle. 300 yd. shots on yotes is like fish in a barrel. Same ballistics as a .223 .
Enjoy it.
