The 222 Remington Magnum

Thanks buckbrush, hunting season never ends for me.
I haven’t sold any varmint rifles lately. I fear I’d be disappointed in what they are worth. The 222 Rem is as good if not better imo.

The twist rate is the only bummer for guys that are thinking about launching heavy bullets. Maybe they will work, maybe they wont. Maybe that extra velocity gets the RPMs up to the happy place. But unless you can get one for a deal I'm not sure why a person would choose it over the 22-250.

I have killed coyotes with most varmint cartridges with heavy and light bullets. For me, a small case pushing a light bullet as fast as possible is the best up-to 400 yard medicine. A 22/250’s extra horsepower isn’t needed imo. The 222 RM is a small step over the 223 which itself is hard to argue against as the most efficient, cheapest and easiest way to do it. Most heavy 22 cal bullets are made for paper or bigger game anyways. Having a fast twist gives you added flexibility but for a pure varmint gun, isn’t needed.

You get stuck out there, time to break out the scoop shovel.

I haven’t used it in a couple years. My days of crashing this old truck into remote coyote country are over. You wouldn’t make it very far this year anyways.

Reminds me of a time deer hunting 10 years ago where we used our hands, feet and a windshield scraper to dig out my buddies one ton Ram. What a sight.
