Had to be said so there I said it! 10% more awesome than a 30-06 too.
No...Not sure why anyone would say that..its is a good cal, but why? 7MM Mag easily takes it.. Sorry look at the stats..

Put Ontario down for the .308 Win.

It's funny, back before the internet, when Moose and Grizzly tags were available over the counter the 270 was considered to be a big gun.
Let the store and shop ammo shelf demographics speak for themselves as to which calibres most ammo purchasers subscribe to.
The rifle calibres 243 win, 30-30 win, 308 win, 303br, 30-06 sprng, 7mm rem mag, 300 win mag are the ones you'll find in just about any establishment that sells ammo whether it be a crappy tire or a one horse store in bugtustle northern ontario.
Don't see so much of 270 win.
Millions of shooters and hunters over the years have pretty well sifted the wheat from the chaff in regards to the best hunting rounds.
I'll defer the decision to them.
For what it's worth, my local gun shop owner here in the Kootenays told me he still sells more rifles in 30'06 than any other caliber.

The awt-6.
Probably up there with the turdy-turdy as the most popular hunting caliber ever.
Makes sense to me, I own 4 guns in 30-30 and 3 in 30'06.
There are more factors involved than simple ballistics. If it was just about ballistics we would have little to talk about, and this place would be overrun by gearheads...
Yup, the new super duper ultra mags kill em deader than the old turdy-turdy did from a 94.
I'd better check the venison chops in the freezer that were killed with 'Granpa's old Win' last fall in case they get up and walk away.
Not sure that deer was dead enough when we quartered it in the bush.
