The 30-30 club, are you in?

I had an older Win 94 for 20 years and a friend pried it away from me. I own a Marlin model 1893 now, it's a rifle not a carbine. Nice looking with some color casehardenning left on the receiver, brass blade front sight, Marble's rear sight. Wonder if that came from the factory? Anyway it looks really good and I occasionaly take it to the range but not in the woods.

I was in the club. I briefly owned a pre-64 M94 but I really had no choice but to sell it :(

I'm no sniper, but I know what I'm capable of and my reputation at my deer camp is that if my gun goes "boom" there is a deer down. But when it came to my M94, I was certainly able to hit the broad side of the proverbial barn, but there was no guarantee that I could keep a 5 shot group within the barn door.

When a friend of mine expressed interest in buying my M94, I insisted that he first take it to the range for a test drive before any money changed hands. Guess what? He was shooting golf ball sized groups at 50 yards! SOLD!

So it was not the gun, it was me. When I told this story to one of the best hunters and shots I know (this fellow happens to be 6'3" tall, like me) he replied, "I could have told you that would happen. I've owned three Winchester .30-30's and I sold them all because I couldn't hit anything with them. Those guns are too short for guys like you and me."

There might be something to this short gun theory, but in my case I suspect it was the heavy trigger pull. Has anybody else been plagued by this mysterious M94 ailment?

Sure have as I'm 6'6". Had a custom stock made for me when i was just a kid(family member owned a smith shop), the pull lenght on most of my stuff is 15 inches.
My wife has a hell of a time finding clothes that are long enough.

savage 340

my favorite - first year I got her took 4 deer longest shot 350 yds (had to hold a little high :D). Nothing beats the look of a lever and if you are going to have one (which I am trying to pick-up) it has to be 30-30!

Since being on here and doing some reading learning more about and respecting other calibers but I do love my Savage 340 bolt!

My dad was given a Marlin 336 by a friend of his who no longer hunted. That was the first rifle that I have taken out to the bush. I took it out again this year and it was great but I think I would like to remove the buckhorn scope that came on it.

30/30

Yes, I have a 1947 Model 94 in 30/30. And a 1948 Marlin Model 36RC in .32 Winchester special. Both are fitted with receiver sights. And both are fun to fire. I just remembered the twins, I also have two Savage model 24s, 30/30 up 20 gauge down. These are also really well made rifles.
