The 30-30 club, are you in?

Bat Masterson commemorative in 30-30, with a Williams foolproof & redfield sourdough front sight. About 15 years ago i was walking through thick bush with my beagle cross & a 7.5 foot sow grizzly came after my dog. The dog came straight back to me with the bear so fast behind him i had trouble swinging the gun fast enough to hit her. Luckily the bear was so intent on the dog that she ran right past me, abut 2 feet away with the dog somewhere behind me. I got a lucky shot into her spine & tumbled her in a sumersault. 2 quick brain shots to be sure & i could reach out with one foot & touch her head without moving my other foot. It was the most exciting 10 seconds of my life, & as a retired bush pilot i have a few exciting moments to choose from. Brian.

I had several pre, and post 64 model 94's, they were great but found my .32 calibers shot better than my .30-30's. "Except for the loooooong barelled Canadian Centennial model. "Wow, now I wish I could have that piece back." It was a shooter, for sure.

The only .30-30 kicking-around these days is a Model 64 Deluxe. My father has somehow by-passed me and allocated it to my soon to be 7 year old son. "Good for him." He may let me borrow it every now and then.

Pharaoh2 I wish I could find a hunting buddy like you in Ontario! Every time I go to respond to a post I see you responding with similar views as my own. I live near Toronto and it's damn hard finding some good hunting buddies! Think I finally found some. You wouldn't believe how many people I know that think I am wierd for wanting to go hunting, let alone shooting handguns!

ehh man i live in brampton and actully hunt in oshawa i don't find to many people from ontario on here either, n all my buddies think i'm crazy too cuz i wann hunt anything that walks lol . I hope u don't mind i added u to my friends list i might be going hunting tomorrow actually!!

I have a .30-30, a New England Firearms SB-2 Handi-Rifle. I love it to bits, it has a Bushnell Trophy 3-9 x 40 and shoots great. I have tried almost every available kind of ammo and it'll shoot ANY 170-grain bullet into a sub-2 inch group at 100 yards, Winchester silvertip are particularly accurate and are good for an inch.

I have a 30-30 savage, mod 340 I think it is, bolt action , never shot it until a few weeks ago bought used years ago made I believe in 1952 ,shoot great nice group @ 50 orso meters no scope:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

proud new member of the 30-30 club here:D I picked up a little Savage 340B myself. I'll be heading out to the range on Saturday to try it out with some factory ammo.

To the guy asking about magazines, Brownells has them. I'm going to pick up a couple too.

Whats the diff between a 340b and 340 ? savage ??

Have had a bunch of different 30/30s at different times including a couple of Savages, one a Savage 99 and another a Savage 24 in 30/30 over 20ga. Didn't like Win 94s at all. Finally settled on a Marlin 336 and liked it so much I got others in 32 Special, a couple in 35 Rem and one in 444. I like the Marlin 336 best, and though the 30/30 is good I like it in 35 Rem the best.

Got a Win Mdl 94. Bought it in 1978. Put a Williams rcvr sight on it. Would not sell, trade, give, barter, etc it for anything. Shoot a lot of 170gr cast gas checked out of her.

sillymike's 30/30 has gotta be a Schmidt-Rubin somebody's converted from 7.5x55. Never seen one but hear they're accurate in the original Swiss caliber. Tradeex has got a bunch of them.

I got mine for Christmas when I was 12. Can't wait for my boys to enjoy it too. My oldest boy is 11 so not long now. It's a Glenfield (Marlin) 336.

Hey

I have been looking to pick up a 30-30, I just need it as a bush gun. Should i go for a winchester 94, or somthin a lil newer? also where might i get my hands on a 94?

I recently bought a Savage Model 24 in 30/30 over 20ga so I sold the M64. I like the idea of a combo gun and can use pointy bullets in the 30/30 to boot.
