The 6.5 Creedmoor, the 260 done right....

Based on my TC Precision Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor ( shot less than 75 times with it ), this caliber did impress me... Now, i did secure 320 factory Hornady ammo ( 160 120 gr GMX and 160 129 gr SST) for the brass and the pleasure of shooting them, got my hand on 200 140 gr Amax and 200 120 gr Amax ogives, Hornady make good brass so i should be ok... JP.

The Creedmoor is a great cartridge design, but the Hornady manufactured brass is the weak link as far as I'm concerned. If long heavy bullets are to be used from a standard length SA magazine I would think hard on the 6.5x47 lapua.

I think Hornady is OK but I don't think it is good. I tried some of their 308 Match brass and wasn't impressed. Based off of my experience with that I will avoid the Creedmoor. But all the power to ya!

My custom must be half build by now, always been drawn toward uncommon caliber or rifle, time will tell if i made a mistake or not, sure did not make one with a certain takedown... Lol... JP.

I've been holding on to a 6.5mm barrel for quite some time trying to make this exact decision.
I'm with the 6.5x47 crowd on this one...it gives you that extra room in a mag for ideal seating depths which seems to be the only real limitation to the .260.
The Lapua brass is a big factor for me too...Hornady anything just doesn't do it for me (except 178 A-max in .308).
The Creedmore wins for availibility of factory ammo, but that doesn't matter to me.
Just my .02

If factory ammo give me satisfaction (.3-.4), i wont reload for it, those are not expensive compare to other... JP.

I went .260 for my build, it was a toss up between the 6.5 creed, 260 and 260AI. The gun Plummer had a 260 reamer so that's what I rolled with.

What's the specs on your build?

Should be like this one .. or close 24 inch barrel 6.5 Creedmoor... JP.

I'm having a 260 put together as we speak. To overcome the issue of mag feeding long bullets I'm having a Wyatt's box mag installed. It will allow longer seating than my AI mags. This way I can seat long bullets to the lands in lapua brass and mag feed. Should make for a nice deer killer.

Hey Caramel, that is my rifle you have pictured there. It is a 260AI and shoots awesome, as low as 0.4 when I don't drink too much coffee. With all due respect I don't see a lot of difference between the 260, 6.5 creedmore, or the 6.5x47 Lapua. I would however give the edge to the 260 or 6.5x47 due to the Lapua brass. While I think the 6.5 creedmore is a decent cartridge, I think it is a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist. But that is how the industry works and how the big companies sell more rifles and ammo, giving us something that is an "improvement" over a pre existing design that never really had any problems to begin with. I hope your rifle shoots well and I am curious to see how it shoots. Congrats and good luck!

The 260AI is the best cartridge to date in our BOOKS.......The most accurate, hard hitting out of all the 6.5ers!! I shoot 3 inch groups @ 900 yards with mine.....HEy ill give the PM11 abit of credit, also the best optics in my book!!!

I shoot the 140 grain JLK with a BC of .612 flung downrange @ 2990 fps......

Wow... thats some gun you have! Must be something to go out and shoot "groups" (plural?) that would set 1000yard Light Gun benchrest world records! Routinely no doubt.

Routinely no.....but i can go out, shoot a 5 round group, once im i dial in(if you know enough about shooting long range, yes you have to dial in...takes a couple shots most days) ill shoot a 3 inch group,i will have 1 or 2 fliers like everyone else!! ABIT to much coffee this evening maybe Marco....

I'll have to take your word for it, I've never shot "long range" before.

I would think long and hard about changing your plans to a 6.5 lapua. Like others have mentioned, great design but the hornady brass pales in comparison to lapua's offerings and is exceptionally hard to find. Also, that article you reference is old news and does nothing to validate your choice of 6.5 offerings. As a long range enthusiast these decisions are easy for me. If lapua doesn't make brass for it, I don't see a need to own it.
