The 760/7600 Club

Well I have NO IDEA how old mine is. Its a model 76 (not 760 or 7600) which was the predecessor to both models.) its in fine shape, and DOES NOT RATTLE. Its chambered in 30-06 and has taken 2 bears, 4 moose, 15 caribou, 1 wolverine (which made a HUGE exit hole that needed big repairs and still looks like crap)
The only thing I never really liked about it, (but its never been a big enough issue to sell it) is that my natural hand position seems to be where the clip is, I just cant get a comfortable shooting stance holding my hand on the pump. I am not a small guy, as I am 5-11 and 230 lbs, but I guess I missed the boat when they were giving out gorilla arms.
ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHEN THE MODEL 76's were made? From what year to what year? Mine still looks no more than 10 years old.

Mine is a 7600 35 Whelen Carbine (18.5") in synthetic forearm and a Knoxx NRS adjustable pistol grip stock. It wears either a Aimpoint 2X red dot on a tactical Pic base or a Leupold LPS 1.5-6x42 in EGW tactical Pic rings depending on the intended application. Pics up later tonight

The "Sportsman 76" rifle, a lower cost version of the Model 7600, was introduced in mid-1984. The Sportsman series was directed towards mass merchandisers and it included the 74 autoloading rifle, the 76 pump-action rifle, the 78 bolt-action rifle, the 581-S bolt-action rimfire rifle, a 12 ga. autoloader shotgun and a 12 ga. pump-action shotgun. The Sportsman 76 was similar in style to the 1950s A-grade Model 760 and featured an uncheckered straight comb, lacquered walnut-finish hardwood stock and the same specifications as the Model 7600. All metal was matte-finish, and the bolt action Model 788-style rear sight was used. The Sportsman 76 was discontinued December 31, 1987, with a total of 20,715 made in .30-06 Sprg.

I've had one 2 760s in .243 and 30-06, one 7600 in 35 Whelen that I still have. I'll bet run of the mill Remington pumps against run of the mill bolt guns for accuracy any day. Never have to bed one. Too bad they rattle, triggers aren't the best and aren't the idea choice for handloaders. I'll go "Fan" sorta. Given equal condition I think the 760 were a better gun.

Over the years I've owned ........

Three in .308 (2 Carbines)
Two in 30/06
One in 270
One in 35Rem
One in 358Win (rechambered 35Rem)
Three in 35Whelen
One in .223

.

I got mine back from the smith's last month, but with turkey season 'n' all, I haven't taken it to the range yet. Its a 760 in .308, now sporting a 19" barrel, Leopold QR rings and a 1.75-4x Bushnell. Can't wait to shoot it!

Mark me down for one, and I'm from Alberta, so not all of us shun them. It is one of my most accurate hunting rifles. 7600 in 35 Whelen, leupy 1.5 X 5, excellent hunting arm. I'm not sure about these noisy ones I hear of on here, mine doesn't rattle, maybe just some guys got the shakes;).

I've had several over the years. My current 7600 is a .35 Whelen purchased from Doug here on the board. It is currently wearing a Bushnell Legend 2-7 scope. It seems to like 225 grain Accubonds over 54 grains of Rl-15.Hope to take a moose with it this fall. Cheers Bac4

I picked up a rare bird last year.An older 760(Bought in '75) "Lefty"in '06.It has a factory left hand monte carlo stock and the crossbolt safety is set for a left hander. The only thing Remington did'nt do was put the ejection port on the left.I have since put an after market Rem.syn.stock,a K6 Weaver on Warne QD rings and bases, being a carbine its a perfect little woods gun.It did have a rattle in the slide till I put a new O ring but all is well now.

I have two.
My 760 is in .308 CARBINE and is 98% as new. bought it a few years ago in a local gun store. I almost SH_t myself when I first saw it. LIKE NEW! Then I bought a 7600 Carbine in 35 Whelen. I still have not shot that one. Need to scope it first. I hope they shoot as good as they look.
