The all new Famae flat top.

Any updates on the muzzle device? I've got an OG SG542 with the flash suppressor pinned to the barrel. Just picked up one of these "flat top" SG542s with the threaded barrel. Definitely curious to see what a quality muzzle device does for it.

As a crazy aside, someone should try firing one of these with no device installed just to see what it does with regards to the accuracy. I may do that when mine arrives.

Thanks

I took mine off. Make sure that you understand that there are no Wrench-Flats on the Flash-Hider itself - The Wrench-Flats are on a SEPARATE Jam-Nut which is used to keep the Flash-Hider tight and properly indexed on the end of the Rifle. Loosen the Jam-Nut first, to take the tension off of the Flash-Hider. Turn the Jam Nut counter-clockwise staring down the rifle in the direction of bullet-travel. That ought to loosen the Flash-Hider, which can then be rotated clock-wise by hand to remove it from the end of the Rifle. Once the Flash-Hider is off, rotate the Jam-Nut Clockwise to also remove it from the rifle.

Once you have the Flash-Hider off, you will note that there is a non-threaded length of Barrel approx 2 cm long right at the end. So there are 2 cm of unthreaded barrel, and then the Flash-Hider threads begin. Standard Muzzle Devices will not accommodate the extra 2 cm of unthreaded Barrel before the threaded portion begins. Do NOT purchase a Muzzle Device without first removing the Flash-Hider to inspect the configuration of the Muzzle area of the Barrel.

After inspecting the Flash-Hider and the end of the Barrel, I am convinced that the device is properly centered on the Barrel such that bullets cannot be striking the Flash-Hider to negatively affect accuracy. This pretty much leaves the development of lighter loads as the most likely route towards improved accuracy for the SG 542.

I fired an older generation 540 with no flash hider... at 50 yards, the groups were about 3".
I then installed the flash hider back on, and it grouped 1/4" at 50 yards.

Very big difference in accuracy.

Basically a junk gun without the muzzle device... Hard to believe. Must be a reason.

I ordered one with 4 extra mags. Was told there was inventory issues and I would have to wait 9 months for the next shipment for mags. Not going to have a firearm with only one mag so I cancelled my order. I’ll wait for the next batch. Will pick up a Tavor 7 in the meantime.

Seeing that someone bought mags to scalp pisses me off. I guess anything to make a quick buck these days.

I also ordered some extra mags and was told that as well but decided to go ahead and wait for the second shipment of magazines. A lot can happen in nine months but options are pretty limited for these.

Anyone else wait a long time to receive shipping info? Bought one and it’s been over a week of business days and still no update.

My rifle arrived in about a week. Then I ordered some mags and a bipod, on two sperate orders, I've not seen any movement on them for over a week.

Liberals want to ban all magazines over 5 rounds regardless of pin after C-21 gets royal assent. Pretty much all good guns are going to be useless.

Buyer remorse.
Incoming mag ban will effectively render these rifles useless.
Those are my guesses.

Depends which rifle you are talking about. The SG 542 will be fins so far as the "No Rivets 5-Round Mag Regulation" is concerned, as those steel mags are permanently limited to 5 rounds internally by the manufacturer. They will be good to go under the new Regulation. The SG 540 is a big question mark, as the mags are pinned if I am not mistaken. If so, they will be in the same boat as PMags, Hera Mags, Lancers, etc. How do you "Permanently" modify a synthetic magazine?!?! Install a Floorplate Block and Epoxy the Floorplate onto the Mag Body? I dunno what will satisfy our lizard overlords, and neither do you - at least for now.

Alll of the fuss about magazines will be moot once the CFAC is re-established with Poly at the helm and the "list" is put forward for the prohibition of all remaining, current designs of "Scary black rifles" via OIC. Once they ban all remaining semi-auto, centerfire rifles with "military features" and a detachable magazine that holds more than 6 rounds, we are effectively done for semi-autos other than .22LR and a few wood-stocked Hunting rifles. At least until such time as there is a change of government and we hold the new Prime Minister to his pre-election firearms promises.

Looking to adjust the trigger. How do I remove the trigger spring so I can then remove the grip?
Also are the rail hex screws in mm? I am looking to put lock Tite on the rail screws. They are really tight and I am afraid tr strip the head.
