First, get gun your finalized with the scopes/rails/accessories you like.
I removed the scope and sprayed down my gun and stock with brake cleaner to remove any oils that could inhibit paint adhesion, then i reattached my scope. (wasnt sure about brake cleaner on scope lens coatings)
Add painters tape and trim to shape to protect absolutely everything you do not want to get paint on. Then hang the gun and spray multiple thin coats with drying time to avoid paint drip streaks.
Add painters tape on top of the base coat to create a breakup pattern of whatever shapes you are going to add next.
I used wax paper folded lengthwise about 4 times to multiply my pattern cutouts. then i laid the opened up wax paper stencil over the rifle and sprayed.
Let it dry thoroughly cause the paint can peel when removing the tape if it is not fully set.
Remove the breakup pattern layers of tape, but leave the tape to protect your vital "paint free parts" and spray the entire paint job with matte protective finish
Let it dry again, then remove the initial protective layers of tape and enjoy
