The Best Lee Enfield Rifle???

So many great rifles with such an incredible history to choose from. I think that's why they're so addictive, I can think of about 6 different types that I'd love to own. I guess I'm going to go with the last Enfield as well, I'd donate a kidney for a nice clean complete L42

What is the best for what?

I have owned one P14, and it has been the most accurate rifle that I have ever shot.... But, it is sinfully ugly, ungainly, and only has a five round capacity.

My No4Mk2 is a great, reliable shooter, and hits what I aim at well enough for me. I am not worried about bruising her.

My No5 would be my choice if I had to carry it around lots in the bush, and rely on the .303 to stop hungry animals from chewing on me.

Tough call which would be "best", if I could only own just one.

Quite the quandary!

It would have to be the Enfield with the best story, the war story that carries great examples of courage, sacrifice, love and devotion.

The Enfield that has battle scars, that may or may not have come back from the battlefield. The one with the authentic story, not made-up stories or spiced-up ones.

The rifle that saved many friends, killed fellow humans for a greater cause, kept on shooting in the worst conditions that the Conflicts could throw at it.

The Lee Enfield that best pays tribute to all who used them so I can live as I do right now, today, living a life with few worries, little sadness, great comfort and... a whole lot of appreciation for our veterans.

Not sure where that rifle is - but there are many contenders for the title, no doubt.

That's a good point Lou ...

With thanks to terryinvictoria, there's a very interesting, but somewhat sad article in the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here) http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12

It's a series of pics of a Battle Damaged 1912 No.1 MkIII Enfield Rifle (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=2382 carried by a young soldier in WW1, whom according to Terry's research, was killed in action while using it.

Badger

Yup, that's just the kind I was thinking about! Thanks Badger for reminding us of Terry's fantastic find.

DCRA No4 7.62x51 rifles and No7 longbranch in the chest. can't find these like you used to. I was buying the No4's all the time along with the accessories. even got a No4 sniper in 7.62x51 in the chest.....

A .22LR Trainer of course.

Along lou's lines, the best Lee is the first one, the prototype, for without Mr. Lee's invention, the world would be a much darker place.

As for me, the No4 Mk2. Last version and all the kinks are worked out. :)

In my opinion - the question is kind of like asking someone what their favourite Ferrari is. When in reality they're all beautiful, and if you're lucky enough to own one... chances are it's probably your favorite.

Having said that ... My vote would be the No4 Mk1* Savage handed down to me from my dad...
