THE BUILDER'S THREAD: If it loads from the front or burns BP, POST IT HERE

Here is a Bullard that I just finished. Very unusual and rare single shot. Now sports a new Ron Smith barrel in 45-90 express and an english walnut stock.

Thanks. Here isa Bay State i relined it to 22 as it was a rusted out 32. The action was rusty and the stock missing a big piece in the checkering. It turned out to be a rather nice rifle, it is the predecessor of the Hopkins and Allen but better quality. I believe they only made 1400 in total.

I have added back missing wood to a couple others and i works out better than you would think. Here is another I finished this week. It is a Uberti low wall in 22. I restocked it, rust blued and casehardened it, now it is more to my liking.

Here is a Stevens 044 1/2 english in 22 that I relined, restocked, casehardened. I also made a 22 mag barrel for it as well. It is a super sweet rifle to shoot.

Here is a Highwall I built using a MVA action, Ron Smith gain twist barrel and semi fancy wood from Tree Bone. I chambered in 38-55.

OK this is the first time I am seeing this thread and I am green with envy for you guys that have the skills, tools and budget to do this stuff.

I just got into single shot rifles in the last (2) years , most are replica's (budget) but I do have a 1884 Springfield Trapdoor original in excellent condition. All of my guns are 45-70 calibre and I cast my own projectiles 405g and 500g and load either holy black or Triple 7 depending on the circumstances. I have a Uberti Winchester Highwall, Pedersoli Sharps Sporting Rifle , Pedersoli Sharps Infantry Rifle and a Navy Arms/Pedersoli Remington Rolling Block.

I have (2) questions , first , what is involved in relining a barrel and how expensive is it? I'm assuming this is done to change the caliber so modifications to action would be required as well??

Second, where would I go to get custom buttstocks made for a couple of my rifles? How much would I pay and would it be worth it? I'm asking because I have period reproduction scopes on (2) of them and I am using leather cheek risers on the stocks right now.

Please feel free to PM me if you want to take the conversation off line.

Usually barrels are lined because the original bore is damaged, rusted out, perhaps bulged.
A reamer or piloted drill is used to open up the bore to suit the diameter of the liner. The liner will be bonded in place, chambered, extractor cuts made, etc. If a muzzleloading gun is being lined, the liner is fitted tight against the breechplug.
The cost will vary, depending on what is being done. Lining a .22 rimfire is straightforward; .22 liners are usually 5/16" diameter, so drilling out the old bore is relatively uncomplicated.
Centerfire liners will be larger in diameter. There is no ready supply of liners in Canada. A variety of sizes are made in the US; these are subject to US export controls. Go to trackofthewolf.com and you can see what is available there. A rifle barrel can be turned down to make a liner. Turning a barrel or blank down to a cylindrical half inch diameter would be an interesting challenge unless proper tooling was on hand.
Lining a bore retains the original external appearance, all markings, etc. If an arm is rebarreled, this originality is lost.
Elsewhere on this site, I've posted about a couple of Lee Enfield relining projects, a No.2 Mk. IV type using SMLE parts, and a No. 7 type based on a LB 1944 .22" receiver and No. 4 parts. Both barrels were originally .303, and were sleeved to .22LR.
Just installed a liner in a little Winchester M1902 .22 rifle.
The Stevens Favorite may well be a favourite for lining. These are cute little rifles often found with horrible bores.

I am in the final stages of building another MVA highwall. I put a 45-70 Ron Smith Barrel on it. I still have a few more coats of oil to go on the stock but I casehardened the action and blued the barrel last week. I think this will be a really nice rifle when it is done.
