The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

Purchased a 16.5" SS version chambered in .308 a couple weeks ago.

I'm really torn on what to get on it as far as a scope goes. Doesn't help that I'm fairly new in the scope department. The scope I'm really leaning towards is listed as only having an eye relief of 6-7 inches. From my measurements I require at leas 9 inches. If I was to mount a scope with a 7 inches of relief out to 9 inches, would it be too far to properly see?

The scopes I'm torn between are;

The Leupold VX-2 1.5-4x28mm-IER-Scout-Riflescope (#1 choice)

Leupold FX-II Scout 2.5x28mm Scout scope

Burris 2-7x32mm Scout

Burris 2.75x20mm Scout

My intention is to keep the rifle in the intended Scout configuration.

I looked at both the VX-2 1.5-4 and the Burris 2-7. I ended up with the Burris as I thought the eye box was larger and more forgiving and the reticle stood out better than the Leupold. First Burris I've ever used and so far it hasn't disappointed.

I recently bought a new scope for my RGS in .308. I wanted IER, 7 power or so with finger click adjustments and zero reset (if possible). The options appear limited to just the Vortex and Burris 2-7x32. I went with the Vortex since it was getting excellent reviews, has an unbeatable warranty and the MSRP is 1/2 the Burris. It also has zero reset which the Burris lacks. Apart from that, the Burris just isn't available where I live without paying a badly inflated price or ordering from questionable vendors.

I am not disappointed. Once at the screws are properly tightened to spec (gun stock and scope mount) I get 1.5" groups at 100m using handloads, The scope holds zero after removal/reattachment using Warne medium QRs. I'll take it.

for you guys who have the 5.56 GSR, Ruger just came out with a 10 round polymer mag that will take up to a 2.5" OAL - Probably in the $60-75 range

put 50 rounds through the new 5.56 GSR this afternoon. Best group at 114 yards was 1inch, pretty good for 2.5X scope!

picked up a MDT polymer ten round mag for the 5.56 GSR, it took just a bit of file work on the back of the magazine to get it to latch in. Takes up to a 2.5" OAL. 4oz magazine vs 10oz for OEM steel

I was going to say the same thing. Ordered the MDT mag, ground down the small tab, fits perfectly. Plus MDT is a CGN sponser, always happy to throw business their way.

Is the barrel contour for the 223 the same as the 308. I was wondering if they are different and if that might be the reason that Ruger is yet to offer the 223 version with a synthetic stock, since it would save approximately a pound off the weight of the rifle. I see that Ruger offers the synthetic stock for sale separately on there web site.

The .223 is available with a synthetic stock....

until my XS rail arrives I will stick to a receiver mounted Vortex Diamondback Tactical 3-9x40 in Warne rings. Had to remove forward rail to allow objective to clear
