The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

Results from the weekend's round of hunting load developments:

I played with 3 charge weights: 44.5gr, 44.7gr, 45.0gr. Each cartridge was loaded to 2.798" OAL pre-crimp, and then after crimp they all expanded to about 2.802" (I'm still working on trying to get a better handle on managing OAL)...
Anyways, target set up at 100m and these were the 5-round groupings. Each group was fired approximately 15min apart since we had a few guns and loads to cycle through and test. I think I will go with 44.5gr, although all the groups seem to be on average about the same, with 44.7 having a bit of a baffling group. I admit that I am by no means anywhere near an expert in shooting, but I figure these will be good enough to take down a deer/elk/moose at sensible distances.

I took my scout scope & rail off last night to mount a 3-9x42mm in the standard position and now have 4 ugly looking holes in my barrel and some marring where the rail was. Does anyone know what can be used to clean up those contact patches (given that it's a matte finished barrel) and if little set screws are available to plug those holes?

I got plug screws from P&D in Edmonton

Got a new Leupold VxR 3-9x40 with CDS turret in Warne QD rings, set up to work between my 5.56 & 308 Scouts.

Nice set up. Mine looks like yours in the bottom picture, xs rail and all. Mine is just sporting a Redfield rampage 4-12 x40 with warne qd rings as well.

I love taking the scope off and plinking away with open sights. Then back to the scope with at the most, 2 clicks back to zero, sometimes spot on. Very impressed with the warne qd rings.

Looking to buy the leupold VX2 1.5-4 IER scope. Does anybody have experience with this one? I haven't been able to find much information on it. I know it will have to be mounted slightly over the receiver which I'm okay with. Just looking for people's thoughts on the scope and which QD Rings will give me the lowest mounting possible.

Finally got some rings and mounted the scope, now looking forward to my first range trip. Hoping to make this my deer rifle this season, feels like a handy little setup already. The eye relief on this Leupold 2.5x is really forgiving.
Going from a 2.5-10x variable power scope on a Rem 700, to a 2.5x fixed power here is a bit of a mind bender, I have to say. Sticking with my beloved .308 and spending some time at the 200m practicing should hopefully keep my confidence up.

So far I'm sold on the Scout setup...mind you I haven't shot the damn thing yet! ;)

its from Burris, called the Ruger to Weaver adapter

Mauser GDog, you will be amazed at the accuracy and ease of use with the 2.5x scope. My first group on paper at 100y was sub 1". I find shooting at vital sized rocks from field positions really boosted my confidence in the setup. I don't feel 250y is too far with that optic

It's a vortex 2.5/10 in ruger rings scope added 16 ounces the sunshade adds near no weight

This is the 16" plastic stock scout easy to carry all day

Tan base coat then sponge on of and darker browns

Dust off with OD to balance it out.

Takes less the 10 minutes per rifle

How do you guys like the trigger on your GSRs?
Does anyone else think they're a bit heavy, or does it suit the philosophy of the rifle?

If the philosophy is to go bang when pulled, then I think it suits it just fine. I think the specs indicate 4.75 pounds, but I haven't measured it. It's a little heavy, but I find it crisp and there's no creep.
