Well after a while "mark2tactical.com" got back to me and they will not ship to Canada.... But they do to Australia... off to IRG .

Well, after many correspondences with Impactgun, I failed to get one. I tried, but they will not sell to me..... Importer??? What would fees be, It's not restricted/regulated..

Now I'm trying "http://ww w.mark2tactical.com" who appears to make a chassis for the Ruger scout as well as the trigger guard. But they don't have it on sale like impact guns.

will soon find out.

I've had the stock trigger group from the walnut version sitting on my work bench for a couple days now...... I think I'm going to make an aluminum one myself and add a slightly wider mag release lever..... hmmmmmm

How is the synthetic stock compared to the laminate one?

The weight of the laminated stock made the GSR feel unbalanced to me. The composite shaves off approx. 3/4lb iirc and livens up the rifle. The polymer is good quality and it is nicely textured-but I may do some stippling on mine. Also, the muzzlebreak makes it a pleasure to shoot.

I picked up the 556/223 grey wood blued barrel.

Plan on putting a Griffen comp on it. I went with this after holding and seeing in person all models. Have been shopping for one for a long time. went 556 because im going to use it as a ranch/homedefence/coyote/small game gun hahaha. I like the look of the wood, also like the comp over the bird cage so an extra 100 isn't to big of a deal.

So a quick question... best forward mounted optic? $500 ish

second are all the gss have threaded barrels? Hidden cap seam under the iron site? Or thats only a us option....

Leupold and Burris make scout scopes in your budget. I've used a Burris scout scope on a Ruger Frontier (same forward format) but it wasn't functional for 200yd hunting for my middle aged eyes.
I pulled my Vortex Sparc II off another and tried on the front on my GSR. It should be just the ticket for short range bush hunting. The Vortex is also in your $ range.
Also, I'd look at the XS rail with the peep site so QR rings you have the option of conventional scope. forward mounted scope and irons.

Dunno about the threading on all the models. I suspect they are the same allowing for muzzle breaks or flash supps.

I'm thinkin I might go with the holosun 515 series...... if dealers here ever actually stock them instead of just having preorders on the pay us now plan.

negative.
only the ones that have come over the border in the last year or so have the threaded barrels.
for the first year or 2 they where only allowed over the border without the threaded barrel.

i went with the Leupold FXII Scout and it ran me $365 Canadian and i LOVE IT!

here is the unthreaded barrel one (or the canadian edition as some call it)
and the Leupold scope.

The XS rail covers the lower half of the front post. I haven't shot any groups with a scope yet to determine how accurate this rifle can be. And didn't shoot it with a scope before either. I was wondering about how the scout rail will effect harmonics - guess I will find out soon!
