The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

I have XS rails on both of my Scouts so removing the rear ghost ring to shoot a conventional scope isn't an issue for me. Ruger m77 with its claw extractor and blade ejector much more robust than the T3. Canadian Rangers won't wear out a Tikka on a gun range in Ottawa or Victoria which is about the extent of their existence

Huh? Range? Ottawa? Victoria? Last time I hunt out with them, it was in Iqaluit. They were on bear watch, and dispatched two. Those rifles aren't range queens.

Is there a specific reason you want to find one in Canada? You could order from the US. Shipping is quick and easy.

I have an Andy's leather ching sling and I don't love it. I would prefer one with a textured carry-surface so that it doesn't slip off my shoulder as easily as it does, and with the way I have mine set up, I find the excess part of the sling to get in the way in the fore-arm loop. I would go with the Galco Ching Sling, or just a conventional sling if I were to do it again.

I had a Galco and found it worse for staying in place, easpecially if wearing a pack. I much prefer a 1” from Andy. If you want something that really stays put, try a Slogan or Ultimate sling (I think they are pretty much identical). Not as quick to get into position for supported shooting but stay on the shoulder really well.

As far as slings for scout rifles, I've heard some good stuff about the Wilderness Tactical Rhodesian Sling (http://thewilderness.com/langlois-rhodesian-sling/wilderness-langlois-rhodesian-sling/). The original was designed by Andy's Leather, and it's basically a Ching Sling without the third stud. Lucky Gunner did a couple videos about scout/practical rifles that shows how it works for shooting. I'm gonna get one when I buy a scout of some sort.

Speaking of which: since the nice civil debate in the Mossberg MVP Scout thread, I've been trying to find a Ruger GSR with a synthetic stock for a reasonable price while I try to sell my Coach Gun. So far, I've only seen prices north of $1400, which is almost double what I'll otherwise scoop up an MVP Scout for (no scope, but I want to get damn good with irons first anyway). It seems to have some advantages, particularly in build quality, and it's lighter in the synthetic stock. Anyone know where I could possibly find a synth-stock GSR for sub-$800?

I have the galco rifleman sling and although it looks like there a lot of straps hanging everywhere it can be trimmed once you get the right fit. After that it does what it says and feels good, comfortable and great to throw over the shoulder. For me so far it’s great

Mine was the Safari Ching sling. It worked as intended and was easy to get into for supported shooting but the split strap design did not work well with pack straps. One side would be on your shoulder, the other would ride the pack strap, take the weight off the other side of the sling and then promptly slide off the shoulder. I find a single, narrow strap works much better, even more so with the elastic quality of the Slogan.

That's a nice one sir, Congratulations.

I am interested in some polymer magazines for the 5.56 GSR.

I see that MDT mags will work (with some filing?) and I can find sources for them.

What about a lower capacity polymer mag for a more flush fit? Or a source for the factory polymer 10 rounder? I see them in the states but not available for shipping to Canada.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I see Great North Precision has the Ruger AI Style 10 rounders (for pre-order). Anywhere else?
