I just received my GSR.
Thoughts on opening the box:
Everything is TIGHT! Putting the magazine in the well, cycling the action - it's all very tight. I cycled the action with some muscle behind it about 100 times tonight and it's smoothed out quite a lot, but based on what I've read, this is normal. The bolt still hangs up a bit on the ring that holds the claw to the rest of the bolt in and around the area of the action where the ejector/back edge of the mag well is. I don't think it's anything major, but it's something I'll monitor for wear.
The magazine will only fit 9 rounds. It's just too darn tight for a 10th round! Unless my technique is flawed, I just could not push the 9 down enough to get the 10th one in.
It's greasy as hell! Do you guys recommend completely stripping the bolt down, and cleaning it out? It seems to be oozing oil out of every crevasse.
My brother got one on boxing day - left handed that had been around for awhile. His has the gunsite logo on the bottom of the pistol grip and mine does not - can anyone elaborate on when those were available? Small point, I know - but I think it's a cool point.
Compared to my brother's, this rifle is way tighter. His magazine jiggles in the well a lot more and his bolt cycles more smoothly/loosely. His magazine will also hold 10 rounds compared to mine. My safety has 3 distinct notches, where his only really has two - full on, and full off.
These are just some brief thoughts on unboxing my rifle. Kind of interesting to note the differences between the two rifles, considering they both came from the same factory.
