The Compact Rifle Thread

My bush rifle most of the time is a 22”kimber .338 federal or 35 Whelen. I could go shorter on the .338 federal but I find the gun so light and maneuverable as it is that I won’t change it.

CZ600 Alpha short action, 223 or 7.62x39. With hand loads, my 7.62x39 groups at 0.75” at 100 yards. I put a cheap Bushnell Banner scope on it, 4-12x44. Light and easy to swing around. The 7.62x39 comes with a 18” barrel.

The CZ600 7.62x39 has an 18in barrel. It is a nice rifle

Fwiw, browning replaced my duratouch stock with the new micro composite stock and it's a nice stock. It's not outrageously short like some other compact rifles. I think it was within 1 or 2 oz of my x-bolt pro's weight.

Apparently the new x-bolt 2 comes with the spacers but you can get spacers for the old model from browning or numrich.

You are so right.... it is 18". It is a nice compact rifle and I would not think twice about shooting deer out to 150-175 yards with it. Very accurate with my handloads, even with a cheap scope. I will see how long the scope lasts. If it fails, I have other guns to hunt with. I was a bit in a fog last night. I edited my post.

I would not buy a new one though. I will not give anymore $$$ to the CZ group after Colt Canada's involvement with the confiscation program. There are a few out there being sold second hand.

One of my favourite rifles is my Howa mini 450BM with a 16" barrel. Super handy in the bush. I've owned and still own a few rifles 20" or less or with shorter lop's. I am a big fan of compact rifles in general as they really are handy for my hunting style and situations.
I agree on the 16" barrel carbine layout on a 450 BM. My one is a Ruger American Ranch that suits me dandy for pokin' in the bush. I have 2 other RAR units in 350 Legend & 300 BLK shoot fine as well. These little buggers have ideal ergos fer me and are light enough to carry about on extended outings. Best part is they shoot me hardcast loads tight inside 100 yds. (y)

My compact car/atv/ camp gun. It's a cva scout 350Legend. A very fun/versatile cartridge with tons of options for handloads. Ive shot from 250gr to 115gr with it so far with excellent accuracy. My go to loads are the sierra 155 fn at 2500fps and the hornady 147xtp at 2750 fps. It also shoots my 9mm hand loads quite well at sub 50 yards. So much fun for small game and plinking. The burris e3 reticle coincides nicely with the 155 sierra giving me holdovers at 200,250,and 300 yards.

Thats a beauty rj. Probably would not want to go lighter than that. Not sure you could if you wanted!
