The Cooey Make-Over Thread

here is the Cooey model 75 that my father in law is giving me once my PAL arrives. It is in pretty good shape, but I am planning on doing a makeover on it, never attempted anything like this before, so it should be interesting :D

Polar_Hunter... nice paint job! Can you tell me what scope this is? Name, model #, price? A friend has a model 60 and wants a scope like yours. Thanks.

Nothing special, just a Tasco RedDot, about $45 to $60 depending on where you purchase them. Most model 60's that I have seen are factory drilled for a side mount on the reciever. For this gun I used available parts,,, thus the barrel mount.

My old man's Cooey 600. I kinda wish I had taken some before pictures. It was sitting in the sunlight in a windowed office in a barn for about 10 years, had to soak the action in penetrating oil to get the bolt to move.

Does anyone know of the part # or where to get a Spring for a bolt (bolt spring - firing pin spring )
trying to get my Grandfathers old rifle working again
Same as a cooey 60 but only markings are Ranger ( I think Sold by Sears )
I have had for the last 30 plus years
Tried cleaning the bolt, Rifle is very ammo Picky, any brass that is on the hard side will fire 2/10 other 8/10 but will later fire the other 2 that you put back in

and on that subject how do you take the bolt apart--- I read that you have to drill out the pin ????

So looking for for a spring or part# for spring and where to get it

Thanks

Unfortunately, I don't think individual bolt parts are readily available. Every time I ask for parts, I am told that you have to buy the whole bolt. These seem to be available. Ask around on this forum and you will get lucky, eventually. Being a machinist, I have made a few firing pins and "strikers", but I am seriously devoid of luck when it comes to the springs.

I finally picked up a cooey 600 today, Ive been wanting one for a while. I found it locally on FB and got it for a good deal... or so I thought.

On the outside it looks great it has the running rabbit stock in good condition only a few scuffs and dings. The metal is ok nothing a new layer of blue wont fix.

But after I got it home and removed the stock I got a surprise. Almost every pin in the gun has been replaced with a finishing nail, somebody very crudely ground the firing pin flush and then some to the bolt destroying the bolt, also the ?lifter? I think, looks to be homemade and does not appear to be functioning properly.

Is this thing worth it to fix or did I pay $90 for a stock, sights, and a mag plunger?

Del Selin in Vernon has a few spare bolts. I don't think it is feasable to try to fix and the negative is the bolt has to be fitted to the gun you would have to send it to him.

Read this whole string last night and stopped by my dads today. My poor old cooey model 39 is still hanging in the rafters lookin pretty rough.

Took it down and the bolt opened fine just a little sticky from the old lube, lots of surface rust on the barrel. To my surprise the bore looks decent! This little plinker has not been shot in over twenty years, I am not even sure if its been out of the rafters in 20 years. I don't think anything was ever cleaned on this gun all I did was shoot it. I took this gun with me everywhere on the farm, rain/snow/ sun it didn't matter. I think maybe on my next stop by dads I will have to bring a trigger lock and get it home for a clean up! I know there is a model 600 around there somewhere too I will have to locate it.

No lock needed. Non restricted's just need to be unloaded. No case needed either.

Hi everyone,
My fiance just bought me this old cooey and iam trying to figure out what exactly i have. any info about this would be great. i didnt want to start a new thread and figured this was the best place to put this. there are no other markings on it other than the "Ranger .22 CAL". is it safe to assume it will shoot 22 short, long and LR? iam new to rimfire..

the guy we got it from has had it for years he said it killed many a squirrel back on his property in Ontario :D
I think i will try to restore this as best as possible since it is pretty rough

I have the same model. The Ranger is a Model 60 made exclusively for Eaton's stores. Production ended in IIRC 1967. Read back through the thread and you'll see what others have done with theirs.

That one in the picture isnt a model 60. The model 60 is a tube fed repeater. That looks like a model 75 single shot to me.
