The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

Hey cr5 it’s great to see that you finally got hold of one of these !

Thanks, pretty decent little toy.
Next one is either a WK180C to compare to my 180b-2 and maybe be a place to stick my MRA spiral twist 223 barrel. Other option is ATRS MS set, I'm torn since both ways will cost me the same as I already have everything I need to build the MS.

I don't find the charge handle on the FX9 to be that bad. It's small but it's not like I'm competing with a rifle like this. I only use the CH once a day anyway unless it doesn't lock back on empty or has a failure. The couple failures so far have been easy to clear.
Not a big deal for me anyways, definitely not enough of an issue to spend $80 fixing.

I ran another 20 rounds through it today to test my 124gr loads. Gong was swinging hard and had to time the shots to slow it down, lol. New loads worked perfectly :)

4.1gr Tightgroup under 124gr Campro, one of these days I'll chronograph them out of the FX-9 and my G-17 to see how much difference the longer barrel makes.

Ya I’ll chrony my loads out of the FX-9 and the G34 and post them up. Heading out tomorrow to put some hotter rounds through the G34 and do a comparison between the two Burris products I have on hand for the pcc. Not entirely sure how much I’d benefit from the MTAC 1-4 over the XS-135 Red Dot. Need to see a distinct difference at 100-200 yds with the magnified dot to justify it . 90 % of the shots made in the Tac Rifle game I bought this for are made from 50 yards and under.

Here is the new charging handle compared to old one, just picked it up today

I didn't like the factory buffer spring. Mine was black and felt soft so I swapped in a new standard carbine spring. Then decided to try the Enidine hydraulic buffer, went out back and ran ten rounds through it. Perfect function and lock back with a KCI 10/17.

Ten rounds isn't much of a test but so far I'm happy, next time I play with it I'll try my Spikes ST-2 buffer as well.
I also decided to swap out the stock trigger guard for a Magpul one. Fit well but had to take off a little material where it hung out into the magwell. Was easy to do and looks better.

Edit:
Just ran another mag through it while walking around the range. Ten more perfect function, steel was swinging.
I think the new spring and buffer have it running a little smoother, I'll have to do some more testing and switching things in and out when I have time to run 100+ through it.

Interested to hear what happens with the buffer/spring swaps. I’m running soft loads so it’s notsomuch of an issue for me right now but I want to bump up my powder charge to cycle my new Glock G34 dependably and get more energy behind the 9mm bowling ball like projectile for 150-200 yd shots from the FX-9 with a modicum of predictability. I want to run them together in two gun events.

Under 100yds I find the FX-9 similar to how Scottsmen find sheep in tall grass ......................... deeelightful !!!

I could definitely feel a difference in springiness (is that a word?), the carbine spring I had in the parts box is stiffer than the factory FX-9 spring and it still cycled the 124gr Campro with 4.1 of TG like a champ. Ejection was about 2:00 and 5-10 feet away depending on the bounce it took.
I doubt it's a needed "upgrade" I just thought the factory one looked and felt weaker so thought I would try it out. As for the buffer weights, same thing again, the rifle was already working fine, just a change for the sake of change and curiosity to see if I could feel any difference.

Cool beans cr5 , that’s what we need to hear. It’s a fine line when you start messing with buffers and springs and blowback changes things compared to gas operated systems but safe to say that TOO much change can bring on unwanted results at best , or unnecessary damage at worst.

I’ll link this video on the subject just for educational purposes again for anyone interested , if you haven’t seen it you will come away realizing it’s a bit of an art applying all the technology available to us in order to arrive at the desired results .

So i tried the hiperfire EDT heavy gunner and nope. It would cycle sometimes and other times it would just lock up like a dead trigger. :( weird. Gonna put back the factory trigger

Does that trigger come with a 9mm hammer or standard 5.56 hammer?
My 9mm AR has a trigger group with the same thin funny looking hammer, I believe these are needed because of the cutout in the bolt.
I'm not sure I would mix and match trigger parts but 9mm specific triggers are available, just don't know if the aftermarket is making them.

I would give the factory trigger 1000 rounds before making a decision to change it. In my experience most milspec triggers have smoothed out nicely by that point and even if they are a little heavy they definitely get a lot better.
In my opinion a new trigger is not needed, it's not going to make the gun more accurate and once it's broken in and you get used to the milspec trigger it's not going to slow you down enough to notice unless your running stages with it in competition.
I know some guys just feel like they need to replace the trigger in everything but in a rifle like this I don't see much point.
