The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

I hesitate to bring this up without pics and excuse me if it’s been addressed already. I was inspecting the bolt for wear yesterday and I noticed unusual deformation on the bottom of the bolt face. The area seems to be designed to contact another part, I believe after the last round it engages the bolt hold open. I’m wondering if anyone else has inspected the bolt (or what would be called the bcg in a true AR) and found any small areas where the bolt seems peened or deformed.
If anyone wants pics so they can post just message me. I’ll take the gun apart and provide photos. I’m taking it in to be looked at by the vendor anyway, but I’m curious if this is normal wear.
My AR has thousands down the pipe and the bcg still looks brand new, that’s all I have to compare it to.

So 1st Tac Rifle Match with the FX-9 last weekend and I gotta say the rifle did it’s part. The owner/operator needs to get his #### together to compete properly but the soft shooting quiet little pcc was on point.

Not that I hated the hand guard it came with but I had already purchased this one as I believe these rifles were originally supposed to ship with 13” hand guards.

Hi, I am about to pickup a FX9. What's the consensus on the best Glock mag to use? OEM Glock? Magpul? 10 Round vs pinned mag.

Looking for reliable feed and reliable last round bolt hold open - drop free is secondary. Asking because I don't own a Glock (yet).

Thanks in advanced.

I have used glock 17 OEM mags, Korean pined 10/30 mags and plastic non name mags....they all work great except the Korean pinned mag is slight too wide for the mag well and requires some sanding to slide in and out without some rocking. Otherwise I have never had so much as a jam....I have also fired nothing but Aluminum ammo in my FX-9 which the manual specifically says not to.....not sure why it works fine. My rifle is completely stock except for a $0.25 O-ring on the front part of the upper which attaches to the receiver to take away the upper/lower wobble. I need to take it to the range more, maybe now that the weather is improving.

**** Update, Don't shoot Aluminum cased ammo out of this rifle, it had a strange situation where the round above firing slightly out of batter projected hot gases to the case below or at least something cause an inward type hole in the case below. Use Brass instead...the manual means brass for this reason likely. ***

biggest problem I have with my Magpul pmag glock magazines (which are pinned to 10) is that it is pinned so tight I can't load my FX-9 on a closed bolt.

I haven't tried any of my ETS, Magpul or SGM mags on a closed bolt, I'll have to do that next time I have it out.

ETS, Magpul and the included SGM mag all work fine. They all feed fine and all hold open the bolt on last round. ETS and Magpul drop freely, I have to pull the included SGM out.

Ran another 200ish rounds through it yesterday. That was the first real test since doing the bolt mod. I just took the corner off the bolt as per the video. I just barely rounded it off as I figured I'd do it in steps if needed and didn't want to take too much off the first time.
I had 100% function with my handloads with 124gr campro over 4.1gr of Titegroup. I also managed to remember to pull out the chrony and was averaging about 1240fps with that load. I'll have to try again with the G17 and to see how much velocity gain the 18.5" gets us.

Ok lefties, here's my solution to getting all the blowback hit you in the face. Shot another 100 rounds and it was so much more enjoyable.
I will remake the deflector to run lower, but this was a huge improvement vs running it natural. The plastic hangs off of the scope ring
mounting screws somewhat loosely, so it doesn't interfere with tightening them down. Yes it's crude and ugly, version 2.0 will be better.

One thing to add that I discovered the hard way yesterday is that these rifles will apparently fire when not fully into battery.
I was running some old handloads I had made for a pistol I had a few years ago, just wanted to burn them up so I could use the brass again and realized after about 8 rounds that they were not chambering fully. I fired and got hit in the arm with something and it was much louder than the previous shot. Case had ruptured around the base and also lodged the bullet about 2 inches into the rifling.
So after knocking out the stuck bullet and picking up the ejected brass to find it bulged out on 3 or 4 of the pieces prior to the blown out one I figured out what the problem was.

So to all the handloaders out there be sure that you do the plunk test to make sure your ammo drops cleanly into the chamber.

I'll get some pics of the brass and try to remember to post them tonight.
I ended up pulling a chunk of brass out of my arm yesterday evening, could have been a lot worse if I was a lefty as my face would have protected my arm.

No damage to the rifle and I continued shooting my proven loads the rest of the day. The remainder of the other loads will be either seated deeper before use or pulled apart (prob just seat them deeper though).

I was going to do something similar with mine but decided to sell it and got a scorpion evo instead
