the good old rem 700

I wish I could figure out why it wont let me post pictures

Have your picture on your computer and the size edited to be no larger than 1000 x 750.

Then use a photo sharing site and download that picture to that site. I use the free hosting site postimages.org. Sign up is free.

Then while looking at that picture copy the address. (URL)

Then while posting your thread paste that address (URL) using the insert image tool in the tool bar above. (3rd symbol from the left)

It may sound a bit complicated but it is a very short learning curve and very easy to do.

I've had several scopes cr*p out on me - all of decent quality. Yes, old Redfields are decent, but you may have a lemon. In addition, you stated that the barrel was not centred in the barrel channel of your old stock, and would make contact when on the bags. That will definitely cause problems...
I've got to the point where I have a 'master' scope that I know works well. Any new (to me) rifle, gets a trial run with this scope. In addition, I built a scope tester - a rigidly mounted aluminum plate with bases that allows me to do the box test.

I agree RJ I do need a new trigger. I'll buy one in the near future.

I noticed a number of questionable things about the stock when I replaced it which made me glad I did. As for flinching I dont find the recoil on it any worse then a 30-06 but maybe your right. Now that I'm feeling more confident with the gun/optic we can see if I can keep the groups tighter and they dont start to "wander" off to a different spot on the paper.

Just a second thought on this. If you put a a decent scope and mounts on it in the $500-700 range you have just doubled the value of the rifle. I have a couple of 700's I use all the time so I am not knocking them. If you have another scope even if it is on a rifle try it and see how it groups. You may not even have to zero it if you are lucky and it is on paper.
