The GSG 16 modification thread

Mine started stripping plastic out so I just left the rear screw out but it annoyed me because I thought I screwed something up...

So you clipped the screw a bit and it still grabs? How much did you cut off?

I was screwing and I heard a loud SNAP... Backed the screws out, inspected, but couldn't see nothing broken. But I clipped off a 1/8 or more. Till it stopped lifting.

Well I took the MLOC forearm off, and I did break something.

So the rear bottom screw if installing the SD forearm, does have to be clipped or it will bottom out on this metal area.

Naturally something gotta give.

Got it glued and clamp on it.

Essentially incorporated the parts (front cocking tube/sight, cocking handle, eye bolt, mag release catch, receiver void fill, lower) from the GSG 5-522 conversion kit (ebay) with a scavenged rear diopter sight, shroud, push pins and metal rear stock from an old airsoft one. The front hand guard was from a CGN member who sells printed ones on EE with some functional hand guard pins molded in to a built up plastic epoxy base.

The front eye bolt was drilled an epoxied in, all rails removed and the receiver sanded down to round, and some plastic epoxy built up to fill in some of the gaps. The rear sight base was sanded down from the existing base. Took about a full day to figure it all out. Its just plastic after all so you just have to have a resilient disregard for the end result/resale value of the gun :d

At this point just deciding on if I want to go with a full rear stock over the extended one which would require some easy surgery and some tubing to finish the shroud... and probably a rotary mag :)

The pictogram stickers are available on Redbubble.

Is the cocking tube housing metal?

I’ve had a few people say the rear screw for the bottom fore-end rail gave them trouble. Not exactly sure what the deal is with that screw position...

Mine is holding up fine. It just ever so slightly protrude into the barrel clamp block, i have a suspicion that people are bottoming out the screw onto the handguard

Can anyone with the 522 kit confirm that the front sight geometry is the same as stock? Ie: the front 522 sight works perfectly with the GSG-16 rear sight?

Do the front sight posts retain the same way, with the tiny allen screw? Anyone want to be a bro and post a good pic of the 522 kit front sight?

Guys I got an odd question does the stock from the gsg stg44 fit on the gsg 16 it looks similar but I don't own one yet. Thanks in advance

I did what Sky52 said for the mag safety. I removed the trigger pack just enough to take the mag safety spring out, and using tweezers put it on the other side, locking the lever to the rear. Thus disabling the mag safety.

Got mine today and noticed that there aren’t any apparent sling attachments...unless I missed it. Was hoping to attach a single point

I used an attachment that is basically a strong nylon/fibre loop with a D ring attached. Looped that around the adjustable stock and used that as the sling attachment point. Not perfect but it works well and the nylon is strong enough and small enough diameter that you can still close the stock easily.
