The GSG 16 modification thread

Noob question here as I don't do much work on firearms.

The screws that are on the GSG 16 are crap. So soft that half of them strip when you take off the forend.

There was a guy online that sold a screw kit for the GSG but does not any longer.

Are these just normal screws I can go into a hardware store and buy better/stronger versions of?

I didn't bother trying to hunt down anything with a similar thread in hardware stores. Ordered a bunch of Allen taper socket bolts with 8-32 threads and just tapped out all the holes in plastic and metal to match that, then trimmed the 3/4" bolts to fit each location. Bit of a chore, but the result is a lot more secure.

Decided to replace the MAGPUL SL handguard with something different. Here is the photo for reference if anyone was looking to add a lighted handguard to their GSG-16 or planning a similar build. Great quality and fitment as always from B&T with very little fitting required.

Works fine for me. I think there was an elevated cheeck rest available somewhere if you wanted it higher

IF you are looking for any 3D printed parts for this please let me know. I have items like a top curved rail with an integrated scope mount and or other designs. Front handguard with a flashlight, 2 sizes of mock suppressors.

Hit me up for any design mods you need.

Here is his rail delete, printed with ABS. Uses interlocking tabs and the brass insert.


For the rear sight. Uses the stock rear sight coarse screw, which isnt the best if using an airsoft rear sight. And might need to shim it a little bit.

But feels solid.

Could be those folks chopping barrels are not in Canada. Many countries that activity is legal.

don't forget some countries you can do that in the usa you can with some paperwork. I hope there not here anyway thats an easy way to get locked up lol

Well. I may as well post mine up. The extension kit and handguard have been 3D printed and painted. Need the conversion kit or a similar charging tube for this to work correctly. Silly faux suppressor wasn't cutting it for me.
