The GSG 16 modification thread

For those of you looking for a sd style handguard, 111TigerAirsoft has the golden eagle ones on sale for 4.00 Candian with about 16.00 shipping using their cheapest method. It will take about 30 days to be delivered.

They also have fixed stocks on sale for about 15.00 Canadian.

Here's what the golden eagle sd style handguard looks like. It was pretty easy to install over the factory handguard, just remove the rails and drill two holes into the bottom of the SD handugard that lines up with the mount points for the picatinny rails and use the short rail screws. It's pretty stable with just the two screws on the bottom.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on HLD tactical? They seem to be the only place I can find making parts similar to the hard to find 522 kits

I’ll let you know i ordered a barrel shroud from them this week. I should get it in about 3-4 weeks.

I saw on the “post” site there’s a guy named tommyent who has some parts. The picture he has they look way more refined than HLD. I wouldn’t buy a handguard or stock from HLD based on the pictures that are provided the finish looks a little rough to me. HLD was the only place i found with a barrel shroud to complete the “SD” look I’m going for.

I got a 9in barreled GSG-16 with red dot last month and I'm researching parts I need for the MP5 mods

Question regarding the 9in. barrels and slapping on MP5 stuff on it
I read somewhere that you have to use the factory screw on the MP5 stock because the RCMP considers the push pin to not be "permanent enough" to count the stock as part of the OAL...

Now before I buy push pins, is there actually any truth in that or can I slap on the push pins no problem?

Additionally, anyone know a good swap for a receiver rail delete so I can add a drum sight? I'll be replacing the cocking tube housing to a metal one and if I do that, the back looks so chunky lol

I ordered and received a hand guard, stock and front rail delete from HLD and found quality, delivery time and customer service to be top notch.
The reason I mention customer service is I’m left handed and I called and asked if I could get a reverse stock so I could mount the sling on the left side and it was here in a week. Just what I wanted. I believe I spoke with Steve Cameron. Reasonable prices and I couldn’t recommend them enough.

It's just opinion as far as I can determine. I've never seen any paperwork that substantiates the "not permanent enough" or "has to require a tool" arguments made. Lots of guns can fire with the stock removed and be under OAL. Is a push pin vs a screw a difference that would matter in court? Who knows.

but those statements came from dlask who were the seller of the custom 9" barrels so wouldnt they have checked with the authority?

you can contact the RCMP firearms Lab firearmident@rcmp-grc.gc.ca they can be very helpful. For example, they were able to confirm that a muzzle device on a rimfire does contribute to OAL, and it does not matter if tools are required to remove it or not. I did not ask about the buttstock though.

A business has a lot of good reasons to err on the side of caution. Doesn't make it the law tho. The "authority" tells people wrong BS all the time. Not to mention that Dlask made a big deal about my push pin, I got them the screw, and then got the rifle back with the push pin in it anyways.

i didnt say its the law but to adhere to the law in these situations so do i listen to Dlask who may or may not err on the side of caution or to a dude on a forum? thats a tough one... not, lol

You seem really confused, first it’s not the law, then you’re adhering to the law.

Listening to gunsmiths and gun stores would have me believe that JHP handgun ammo is prohibited, that LAR15 and such magazines are prohibited, that transporting ammo with the gun is prohibited, that carrying an uncased gun is prohibited, that having a light on your gun is prohibited, that doing your own gun repairs is prohibited, that you have to be a “licensed gunsmith” to make modifications, and probably a hundred other wrong things if I wracked my brain for a while.

And as for listening to Dlask, like I say they felt so strongly about it they gave me my 9” barrel GSG16 back with the pushpin in instead of the bolt.

OAL length is not the law? really? look, im not here to convince you nor should try to convince us. let us decide for ourselves who to believe and i believe dlask bcos they are in the business making custom barrels and he said he was in touch with the authorities. its not fair to lump them with store salesmen and other gunsmiths. you rehashing your story about you getting this and that over and over again isnt gonna cut.

Please work on your reading comprehension.

lmao, typical one liner personal insult when losing a fight.

btw, i have never been to their store nor met them in spite of living 30 min drive away but i did buy a gsg16 with custom 9" barrel off EE and it arrived as expected. oem cross screw and a wood screw in the oem stock preventing it from retracting (from fully extended).

I didn't suggest that OAL length is not the law, and if you think I did you can't read. I believe that a gun that doesn't fold, telescope, etc would just be measured as it sits. If taking the gun apart to reduce OAL is a valid method then obviously a lot of guns considered NR are actually prohibited. The concept that using a tool or not is the difference between taking a gun apart to measure OAL being the correct method or not is completely invented and has no basis in the law.

If you look you'll also see I didn't say anyone should necessarily use push pins to secure their stocks, just that the interpretation that you can't is made up and unsupported in the law. You're not adhering to the law if you use a screw over a push pin, you're going beyond the plain reading of the law out of caution. I literally typed "Is a push pin vs a screw a difference that would matter in court? Who knows."

Stop repeatedly misrepresenting what I said and maybe I’ll indulge your temper tantrum.
