The M1 Garand Build Thread

$60 plus tax and shipping is a pretty hefty price for the 3 components that make up the op rod catch. You should be able to get the complete op rod catch assy for $25 or so.

And yet, there is a price to convenience. I got my assembly from Marstar, it shipped assembled. I suspect they only break them down when a part is ordered separately.

I also note they are now out of rear sight assemblies - too bad. They had a good price.

Northridge also has catch assemblies for $35, but if you order from them, try to order a full $100 worth of stuff or their shipping to Canada will push you up to the Marstar price.

I ordered one catch assembly from Marstar and one from Northridge. The one from Marstar didn't come assembled, in fact, I got the accelerator and pin but they forgot to put the catch in the package with the 20 other parts I ordered. I called and they quickly shipped it out. But unfortunately, after calling them again when a few weeks went by without getting the catch, they realized that there's a guy in Quebec with the same name as me on their files that received my op rod catch out of the blue! Oops! Marstar is again sorting it all out (no issues dealing with them, they're a pretty good team!)

Almost there!

Still missing a couple of pins which should come in tomorrow, and a barrel which I hope to have sometime in Dec. Looking to be just shy of 2k$ all in. Most of the parts are new or NOS, including the stock, adjustable gas system, gas cyclinder. The receiver (obviously), the trigger group, front sight, handguard spacer, and some other bits and bobs are used.

I'm not doing the barrel installation myself, going to have a local gunsmith do it. Wasn't worth investing in 400+$ worth of tools to use only once. When I'm done I'll have a couple of spare op rods and bits and pieces for sale.

Since this post is about builds. I thought that maybe a parts matching board could be started or included. From complete guns, old build's to new one's, there are US and Italian parts that could be exchanged to complete matching guns.
