Of course, most of the Italian M1's came to Canada with a mix of WRA and SA parts on them due to the Danish rebuilding programs. So really, it's not incorrect to use those parts. HRA or IHC would be incorrect though, since the US export of arms to Denmark pre-dates HRA/IHC production.

For those of you planning to get your Garands re-parked when completed, are you going to do all metal parts or just the major ones not covered by wood? Were Garands re-parked after each rebuild, or did they rely on the fact that all replacement parts were parkerized at the factory? I'm thinking here that since many Danish M1s had SA and WRA parts on them besides the PB/BMR ones, I'm only going to parkerize the parts that need it and not sweat minor differences in the shades of grey.
Its reasonably safe to assume that the majority of rifles were re-parkerized when overhauled at arsenal or depot level. The idea was to put the weapon back into inventory as an essentially new rifle awaiting re-issue to a using unit. Arsenal/depot level inspection criteria were more stringent than those which were applied to rifles in the hands of troops. This included gauging and inspection standards in areas such as barrel erosion and pitting, condition of wood and metal finish and headspace. Most rifles that were returned for arsenal repair required a replacement barrel as well as other parts. That said, you do continue to see rifles that went thru depot level inspection, as indicated by the various cartouche/stamps on the stock, which still retain their original barrel and other parts.
There are varying shades of Parkerizing colors. Parts were parkerized following manufacture before they were assembled into finished rifles. The color depends on a number of factors including the nature and strength of the Parkerizing solution, surface preparation and the softness of the steel in various components. Stainless steel components (gas cyl, lock, and screw) were refinished in a number of ways incl chemical coloring and painting after which paint was baked at a specified temp for a period of time. You can refinish a gas cyl by using flat black high temp cylinder head paint and then baking in an oven. I use stainless steel blackener to refinish the screws and locks. One thing to note with restorations is that all makes of parts were used as required and as available in spares stocks. The rifles were engineered for complete interchangeability of parts regardless of the maker.

Put the gun together and range test it for a while. You will get a better idea about additional parts replacement and re-parking it or not. I re-built an old Thai surplus m1 garand and left the
finish alone. Mostly all new parts but the receiver, when I finished it, it had it's own look that made it stand out from other garand's.

Stove black. Also known as Stove Polish Paste. Cheap and available in any hardware store. GI's used to use it to blacken their gas cylinders in the field. Doesn't work too badly, although you have to freshen it often. Took the shine right off my GC. Don't let your wife catch you using her good rags to apply. Now my GC matches my wood stove. Life is good.
I`ve got my gas cylinder coming from Marstar and a barrel ordered from Constantine, just need OP Rod and follower assembly, a few pins, and stock now. I`m bidding on a bet up old Korean marked stock on ebay that no-one seems to have interest in, but I like it cause it`s kinda and looks like it went through battle. For anyone who bought a barrel from Constantine how long did it take from time of shipping to get to your door?
I'll let you know, I ordered one November 25th to replace a barrel on a post-war SA I have, but others have claimed 3 to 4 weeks. My Beretta receiver is wearing a 7.62 NATO Criterion now. Although not a necessary part, I have a USGI spacer block for the mag well. Normally I'd get a Beretta made one off e-bay, but I already have the C-marked US Navy one.
lol - no. When guys have them up here, expect to pay $350-400. If you import yourself through Prophet River, expect to have $250-300 into a $170 barrel.
The exporter has to submit a form 6 and deal with the atf. They don't do it for free, if at all. Hence why some businesses specialize in being the middle man.
