The MG34 Repair and Troubleshooting Thread

Wow you got lucky I have never seen just rollers for sale on eBay!
Yeah the cost for parts is rediculous but what do you do? Can't have a $7000 gun as a wall hanger. Couple years ago I paid $400 bucks for a cocking handle but I needed it to run the gun so had to get it, couldn't find any anywhere
I actually just bought one on the EE so now I will have a spare
Those firing pins are sweet, I didn't know anyone was manufacturing new ones, stainless should be good

Kind of like me and 300$ for a bolt... lol.. Yeah I hate having guns that dont work... lol...

Ill still need to find the clips tho.

I just ordered a few spare rollers and clips from Brian Poling at BRP Guns in the US. He's happy to ship to Canada so long as you obtain an International Import Certificate from Global Affairs Canada, and indicate on the certificate application that the parts are intended to maintain a semi-auto remanufactured MG34 (BRP needs this documentation for export control from the US). The certificate is free and I got mine in 2-3 days by email from Global Affairs and then forwarded it to BRP. BRP is the manufacturer of the .308 conversion that IRunGuns carries - I have one on order from them.

The pin for the lever could be a pain to get out so be prepared

I did win... lol... Broke 3 punches . Ended up drilling it out... Will get it milled down tommorow :)

The TNW rollers we all sorts of phucked, The clips were broken inside of them . The rollers from the real German bolt came off by hand ? does that mean the clips are N/S ?

You sure did a number on those punches! You can try to bend the clips so they have more spring in them and see if they work but probably better to just get new ones

Im starting to like wrenching on this thing. Its the begging of a long love hate relationship...lol..

I almost found enough parts to build myself a 2nd complete BCG.

Just filled out the form :) That was super easy. Ordered 8 clips among other things :)

I spoke to Brian by phone last week, and he mentioned that the clips are new production, and are as thick as the thickest originals that were originally produced - evidently some channels where the clip engages on the roller lug are machined larger or smaller than others. He suggested that if the clip seems too thick, to nip the ends off the clip at an angle to taper them without removing much material, and this helps the clips to seat in the channel. My BRP clips aren’t here yet, but I’ll post a photo of the procedure that worked for me with my other clips when they arrive.

Misery loves company!

Another thought - check your booster cone. Original MG34 booster cones have an 11mm diameter hole, but evidently many TNW guns were fitted with 9 or 9.5mm cones to make a gun that was not cycling well at least cycle. The problem is that with milsurp or fairly high pressure ammo, the smaller diameter booster cone captures too much recoil gas, creating a more violent recoil impulse that is used to unlock the action after firing. There are several posts on US MG34 sites that blame this overly violent recoil impulse on beating up the bolt.

My booster cone measures 9.5mm, but I have an original 11mm cone coming in just to see if it makes a difference. Since I love handloading, I've handloaded my own 8mm Mauser anyway, and am using a mid-strength powder charge that I don't feel is creating a violent recoil impulse.

North Sylva just screwed me again. I didnt know those idiots imported these MGs. They told Wolverine that its not their problem that my MG broke... What a bunch of clowns

Yup North Sylva are a bunch of A holes, absolutely cannot stand those d*cks. How they are still in business I don't know
My first 34 wouldn't even work at all and they did jack for me either, bought my second one from Marstar
Same now with my m 305 with the mim bolt, they can't be bothered to reply back to me

There's enough knowledge out there for fixing the mg34 I had to research and learn lots but it was worth it
It's just crappy as it ends up costing us money when it should be fixed under warranty

I hope you’re driving all your toys out when you move to Alta! I would hate for a moving company to “ lose” a shipment!

Well I would finally be able to buy that Lamborghini Huracán I want with the insurance money. :) Id forget about shooting pretty quick ... lol...
