The MG34 Repair and Troubleshooting Thread

Well got my WW2 belt from Europe today.

They are all marked :) One set looks like they forgot to blue it...lol...

Wow - nice, well-marked belts. Lots of degreasing to do, and the German manuals mention brushing out and oiling each link, even using paraffin wax if the loaded belt was going to sit for some time.

Now of course you need to get your MG34 back up to use those beautiful belts! Please keep us posted on progress.

+1 on Graygoose he knows these things inside and out.
Btw those are some really nice belts! I find the ww2 ones work better then the post war stuff

Did those belts come from eBay or Gunbroker? Which seller? Feel free to PM if more appropriate...also wondering if these are "low friction" versions, which have little dimples on each link, like those listed on BRP Guns site in the US...

Thanks!

My other belts are Yugo. Yes these ones worked with the loader :)

I looked at the video you made of the loader in action. I would be interested to see how the belt accepts the rounds. I saw the part when you lifted the cover but I still have a hard time imagining how they snap into the belts. Can you post a pic of one unrolled? They are metal right? Weren’t the others some kind of other material? Sorry for all the questions but I find this whole MG34 thing awesome. I will have to live vicariously through you though, as I don’t see one in my future.

All the belts made for the mg34 and 42 are made from metal
Some belts have minor differences to them (where the rounds get held in the links) but all would function in the belt loader
I have a ww2 belt that's even made of a stainless metal as opposed to the normal black steel ones
The browning 1919 used cloth belts or metal disintegrating links

I guess it’s just the way the feed out when empty. For some reason it looked to me like it was different. But Zooming in on a still I see they’re the same.
