The Moose Thread (As Canadian as it gets)

2014: My son Spencer's cow moose. 1 x shot with the 7mm08 and it was down.

My dad was rather pleased. He pushed it out too him and I got to watch the action from 100 meters away. My father by the way is 74 years old and still going strong.

Great thread......lets get some more pics/stories in here!

I have been bowhunting for moose for 35+ years... and while I don't consider myself a trophy hunter (for any species), I do appreciate a nice representative adult male of whichever species I am after and will pass up lesser animals that present for shots... with moose, more than any other game animal, I tend to lean more to being a meat hunter, as I surely enjoy dining on moose meat... and I appreciate that my entire family feels the same... which they don't for bear, deer, waterfowl, small game, even turkey (except the jerky)... So, it is very difficult to pass up a healthy 2 or 3 year old bull, with a tag burning a hole in my pocket. I have taken close to 20 Canada bulls (to be honest I'm not exactly sure how many, as I'm not really one to tally) ... 6 or 8 of those were over 50 inches, the largest (seen below) was 62 5/8" and gross scored 221 7/8"... We have another bull tag this year and will return to the same area next week, looking for the one that charged me three times after dropping the big lad below...

thats really nice man. i have always wondered if bow hunters have a rifle as backup in case they miss and get charged. there was a video going around recently with a bowhunter gettin charged and i would have peed myself.

In Ontario, it is not legal to carry a rifle while bowhunting big game during the bow season.

Our 2014 Ontario bull. Shot in WMU49 (Parry Sound area). My uncle was the shooter. You'll notice one antler was completely broken out of the skull. I cant imagine the force required to do this, and im shocked the moose was still alive. The skull was actually broken. The wound appeared to be at least a month old. Naturally, we'll refer to this moose in camp lore as "Lefty".

Big cow this year, going for bulls next year.
With the season so short here in NB, we generally shoot the first one we see be it cow or bull. Calves mostly get shot on the last day.

So far I've taken two small bulls and a cow over the yrs here. No trophies.

We only had a cow tag, but saw some good bulls. Next year I will have a bull tag...
