Awesome looking area by the pics, i cant wait for my 2 weeks in the mountains in june. If i dont end up moving there i hope to make it an annual trip but change it to late august opposed to june, unless i can find a hunting partner then it will be when ever the season is.

I will add sum new Zealand mountain hunting, photo's, McCauley Valley South Island.
first time in this area for me, went in with a couple others, after attending a big-bore shoot, with fellows on a NZ hunting forum, 4x4 up the river to the McCauley hut, and foot hunt from there, two dozen Thar were seen, and I shot a couple, on the last day full day, one unrecoverable, due to a nasty bluff system. likely the finest hut I know of in NZ, gas cooking sola lights, old wood stove, with oven, 16 bunk, we had it to ourselves till the weekend, when a few $x4, bikes showed up, great spot. fairly easy county by NZ standards.
Oh and Thar meat, hasn't got any less tough, next time I'm shooting a nanny for meat.

Oh, it rained... spent the first three days straight in a one man tent... when it rains there, it really rains. The bench I was on was saturated, fortunately the tent floor held the water out... would have been pretty miserable if I had sprung a leak. But there were also some absolutely beautiful days in there too...
when you will be there let me know i ll give directions where to have some nice connections with sheeps and goats on secret spots not huntable ...

Mountain hunting stories, videos and photos always make me envious.
Most of all because I'm a clumsy bugger and wouldn't dare go up there, because I'd fall somewhere.
And also because I can't afford it. It's a long way from the east coast to BC, and even longer to New Zealand. Here in NB, I don't know of any proper mountain hunting that's done, even in the Appalachians, because they're all so wooded that you can't see.
I get a similar feeling of enjoyment of "big" outdoor places by hunting the estuaries and marshes here whenever possible, but it's defintely not the same as being on top of the world.

If you don't mind, what type of tent were you using, I'm always interested in what others are using in wet weather. Nice pictures btw.
The tent I used on that trip is a North Face Storm Break 1... a reasonably priced tent that held up way beyond it's price point. I used it on two other hunts since then with equally good results. I'm 6'4" and 250 pounds and it is very tight for space, but I made it work.

Just came onto this again, awesome pics Hoyt. Hoyt can attest when it’s wet here it’s other worldly wet. But all that water is the lifeblood of this place and why the things that grow here do. I’ve had an absurd amount of adventures, some terrifying, some wonderful, all life changing, behind the controls, client, camera... out there. Mountain hunting has shaped my life in ways I never could have imagined.
