The Mountain Hunting Thread

23 days and I'll be getting dropped off in the mountains for a 12 day goat hunt. I can't wait for more pics to add to this thread. This thread is the reason I'm even in BC
awesome, I hope it is a grand adventure !
I really enjoyed the stories and pics of you and your daughter's .303 brit goat hunt.
Best of luck!!

Thanks, this trip is with the same daughter, in the same lake, different area though. She has her hunting license this year and a goat tag..so the plan is to get her a goat. I'm sure I'll have lots of pics and a story to go along with it

Using the 303 again?
Funny you should ask, I was going to bring my classic sporting rifle I've building but I'm leaving in like 3 weeks, the rifle isn't done and I don't want to test fire it, look it over for any issues and sight it in on a remote lake incase somehow something goes wrong.

So I'm back and forth on the lee Enfield I used last time (my first rifle) or a Winchester model 70 in 375hh
Both of those rifles are sighted in Andi have at least 50 rounds of a developed load for them.

I'm learning towards the lee Enfield with a scope but the iron sights are always there Incase of scope issues.

here some "mountain hunting pics" from my 2024 hunt i can post (in a different thread) the whole story i posted on 'hunting bc' and 'tnof' if people want to read it and see the pics

this is the same daughter that came with me on my 2022 goat hunt. Post #501 in this thread

as seen in the pics it was a nanny, she was dry and on her own. we pushed a billy off the plateau and down into the valley we were staying in on day 3, we watched him for a few hours before bed and figured we would find him in the morning. then day 4 we woke up and could see the what we thought was the same goat as the night before in near the same spot. after making a play on it and getting within 300m i shot it, only to realize i should have double checked that was the same goat, you can say excitement and lack of experience got me.

i got it inspected she's 8 year old. 8 1/2" horns and the neat part was from the 4,5,6,7,8 annuli they were spaced exactly 5mm apart showing very consistent growth for the last 5 years.

You’re out there living with your kids, congrats Evan.
Thanks, and I know I've said this before but its honestly because of this thread, well maybe not because of this thread (it was a lot of work on my end) but if this thread didn't exist the chance of me being where I am currently in life would would be very low. I know its crazy to make major life changes based off some pics on the internet but i just had to come see it for myself and it didn't disappoint.

Post #205 had more meaning then I let on

I'm making the most of it because in 5 years ill be moving back to NS. We had figured we would stay for 5 years but I just bought a new Rav4 so we will stay until that's paid off (5 years) making the total time in BC 8 years.

me and my son (7 y/o) are doing a bear hunt in region 8 by my gold claims in 2 weeks, morning and evening bear hunting, mid day, sluice box and gold panning

congrats on your goat and memories with your daughter. That is incredible.

I head to the Yukon next Friday for a Dall sheep/Grizzly horseback hunt. Starting to feel the excitement....laid out all the gear last night...heading to the store for some additional items this weekend. Its that time of year.

Thanks and that So cool, good luck on the hunt.

A horse back hunt would be so neat. My daughter has been saying she wants to go on one really bad. Now I need friends with horses lol
