The (naked) truth about the GSG 1911 barrel bushing

Hey Mods
Can we sticky this?
The grey hairs I lost (see my previous post) are starting to turn brown again and possibly even regrow.

It's a great post.

And yes, worthy of a sticky.

Done.

Hi Scott, or you should pass this informations to GSG so that they can modifly the design a lttle bit?

Cheers

Trigun

Dear Trigun,

We have already passed this information to them as well as others they have already changed the barrel bushing to a stainless steel one in the current models and have done so for quite some time already. There were only a very few that didn’t have the steel barrel bushing but even the so called cheap one would bend too 80 degrees before breaking which is allot. The one I currently own still has the so called pot metal one installed and I've personally shot over 30,000 rds through it the only thing I changed was the rubber washer with another one at 28,000 rounds I was seeing if I could break it which I so far under normal use haven't been able to do.

Best regards,
Scott

HELP. I do believe, I replaced the buffer and the slide lines up correctly (like in the pictures) after i slide it in, now i can no longer rack the slide back? What happened. Its locked in. I can not even rack the slide back to take out the 3 pins to release the slide from the frame. :(

Is the safety engaged? Just asking.

The GSG 1911 barrel bushing is covered under the warranty. We give a 1 year manufactures warranty on the GSG 1911.

Best regards,
Scott
Well, as luck would have it, the barrel bushing on my GSG 1911 broke this past Saturday. And I do believe that the guide rod was resting properly in my gun. I had to call a cease-fire to retrieve the recoil spring plug that flew about 15 yards down range, hillarious...

Scott, what do I need to do to get a replacement? TIA.

What we normally do is you contact the place you bought it from. We send them the parts or they send us the firearm and we fix or replace the firearm free of charge. It’s tends to be faster that way.

Best regards,
Scott

LOL I am one of the 'early adopters' i.e. I bought this gun from you. :D

Thanks, I will e-mail you the particulars, I just hope you don't need me to send the pistol in for a bushing replacement. ;)

I had a spare steel Colt barrel bushing in my parts box so I replaced the original one in my GSG for it and put that one aside with the spare front sites, etc.

new bushings are steel

If you try touching a magnet to the bushing, you will find the latest (at least my last three shipments) are magnetic now :) Also, if you do find a non-magnetic one, just use a 1911 bushing - works great! We have seen zero breakages with the latest ones...

I bought mine from Dlask.
It came with the steel bushing, so this part is OK.
I know you are waiting for the washers and buffers to send to me.
Will you be sending me the new (new configuration) guide rod and
cylindrical spring?
I believe it would be faster from you (Blue Line) straight to me, rather than
going through all the shipping to and from Dlask. I'm in Ottawa and you have my addresses through pm. If you the serial number of my GSG let me know, I'll pm them to you.

Can anybody post the dimension of the steel guide rod? I am looking at another angle why the original barrel bushing and aluminum (skeletonized) guide rod are having problems.

I was lucky enough to get a one-off solid steel guide rod over the weekend. 15-mm longer than the x-type rod replicated from the major dimensions of the x-type rod. Still, the barrel bushing turned to about 4 o'clock position after approximately 120 rounds. I think the rod is not the only problem. The pressure exerted by the conical spring is not strong enough to push the guide bushing against the barrel bushing. Also, while cleaning the gun, I noticed the barrel bushing loosely fits the slide. Check the fit in you gun by removing the guide bushing and recoil spring. You don't even need to remove the slide from the frame. Notice that the barrel bushing shakes like a rattle by the end of the slide. This is not the case on a full-size 1911. The question is, will an aftermarket barrel bushing that is a tighter fit better than the ones we have?

Scott - have you started sending upgraded parts? I hope not via Canada Post.
