The (naked) truth about the GSG 1911 barrel bushing

So far, I have not had any problems with the old guide rod, or the conical spring.

The specimen I had bought came with the improved steel bushing.

By sheer luck, I received Blue Line's replacement parts before the strike (Thank you, Blue Line).

I will not replace the old parts unless (or until) they fail.

I hope I'm not jinxing my GSG 1911 by praising it. Knock on wood and ward off evil eyes.......

Can you post pictures of the new guide bushing and recoil spring? Did you notice any major difference from the original ones currently installed?

I'll try :redface:this weekend. I only have my cellphone camera.
I'll try to show the two sets side-by-side (and keep my fingers crossed).

One more minor issue, I noticed a part of the slide where the guide bushing sits and guide rod with spring goes in gets some minor burring. You'll notice this when you try to clean the gun and the barrel cannot be pushed out of the slide with just a push of the finger. When this happens, remove the complete slide assembly. remove the guide bushing and spring. Push the Barrel and Guide rod (with steel and teflon washer) towards the muzzle end. Notice the steel washer touching the edge of the lower part of the slide. By slightly bevelling the lower part of the slide, from the inside (a dremel tool will do), burrs can be cleaned out and barrel can be removed. What causes this burrs is the OD of the steel washer ramming the slide. Permanent solution is to replace the steel washer with slightly smaller OD enough to seat the smaller part of the spring properly.

Just got the parts today! Surprisingly, they did not change the recoil spring. A new Guide bushing has a tab supposedly to prevent turning. Guide rod is still the same, skeletonized aluminum. I'll try these over the long weekend. BTW, buffer disc looks thicker.

My current set-up with my machined all-steel guide rod is working flawless. Total approx 1000 rds on the gun, about 5 misfires in last 500 rds due to likely lead deposits. No cleaning with the last 500 rds (with the all-steel guide rod full length). After cleaning before going to range last night, still no problems at all (200 rds). I will just keep the new parts until I need them for replacement.

BTW, how often do you guys clean your gun?

Dear Bugst,

Here is what was sent to me from German Sports guns.
Please find attached pictures of the new and old cachedisc (concerning the recoil spring guide).

The new one is thicker and now the Recoil Spring Plug returns less deep, so the barrel bushing does not rotate anymore and the guide cannot break.

Please note that this only effects a very small number of GSG. We do all the warranty repairs so if anything breaks or doesn't work right we will fix or replace it free of charge.

Best regards,
Scott

I just tore down my Sig 1911 22 and noticed that my barrel has a ramp on the back where the barrel pictured was a step...

I am wondering if all the newer GSG's have this? From what I read the general consensus is that they are the same gun...

Hey Dr.Lector would it be possible to weld up some materail to the barrel and dremil it smooth hence creating a ramp on the barrel to correct this issue?

Yup, mine is only about 10 days from the factory and it looks exactly like your pic.

just got mine yesterday took it apart and was happy to see that they have corrected the problem and the barrel bushing is metal as well
and so is my guide rod

it would appear so as well as the guide rod and the barrel bushing
it would seem that they are listening to what people are saying is going wrong and then fixing it
kinda nice for a change
