The (naked) truth about the GSG 1911 barrel bushing

Three club members who tried mine (two held it and manipulated in the safe area and one was also invited to fire it and I gave him three loaded magazines to shoot --- not as a gift-to-keep) purchased or are ordering.
Blue Line's service reputation is also helping.

Just tried my new GSG last night (still stock, so no pics). I forgot the club's summer hours so I only had 1 hour to shoot. I LOVE my GSG! Only one FTF out of 110 rounds of CCI stigners. It comes from ARMCO with the sweetest trigger. However, I do not care for the cheep plastic sights, the arched mainspring housing and the ambi safety that digs into my tumb. I also got the SS guide rod from ARMCO but have not had a chance to swap it (just wanted to run it stock).

In all, the GSG is a great little brother to my Springfield Armory .45. I will post pics in a while when the modifications are completed.

Thanks a bunch! I was wondering if I was going to have trouble with the guide rod on this gun, actually thought trying to get one made... saw this on U Tube... seemed to work OK

Another truth about the bushing.....its only purpose is to hold the open end plunger tube in place. Its not fit to the barrel at all like a traditional 1911.

I have posted the following info on another website long time ago.
I do not remember if I have posted it on CGN.

I think this post should come with all the necessary disclaimers.

One thing that bothers people is the mag disconnect safety on the GSG1911.

If I had a GSG1911 and I want to disable the mag disconnect safety,
then I would choose this very easy way.

There is a part that looks like this:
GSG1911_021.jpg

It is located on the spring housing:

Under the tension of that little spring,
that part works as an "arrestor"
by restricting the movement of the beaver tail.
Therefore, the gun cannot fire because the beaver tail cannot be pressed.

When the mag is inserted, then
the tab on the left side of the mag pushes up the "arrestor",
which, in turn, will un-lock the beaver tail safety (that is,
the beaver tail can be pressed now in the "fire" position).

By removing the "arrestor" and its little spring, the
the gun will fire without a magazine.
However, I would not expect any other big things to happen.
It would not ease the functioning of the whole gun
(like removing the magazine safety in the Ruger Mk3)
It would not lighten the trigger pull
(how some people try to make you believe).
It would only make the gun to fire without a mag inserted. That's all.

However, I will not do it, because I don't have a GSG1911.
Cheers

If you do this, you take full responsibility for it.
I am not suggesting that you or anybody else should be following the info in the above post.

Hi Fellow Gunnutz... My GSG 1911 22 has a ramp built in, on it. thta a good thing... I love the 1911 pattern, I would really like to get some "up grades" for my 1911 22, I have seen some on the internet, from USA, that WE can't get... does any one know of a Canadain supplier that we can get up grades for our GSG 1911 22's?

Dlask Arms for sights, Armco for stainless guide rods. Those are GSG specific parts. A lot of 1911 parts will fit with some minor fitting....such as slide stop, barrel bushing, ambidextrous or single side thumb safety; complete mainspring housing (with internal parts); grip safety; disconnector; hammer and strut; sear, mainspring; grips and magazine catch; plunger tube assembly, and trigger.
Marstar has some 1911 parts, and Brownells in the US will ship a lot of stuff to Canada.
