The NEW KING is taking off!

If a person has a 375 H&H they like, they probably wouldn't want a 375 Ruger, as the performance is so close.

This is a very true statement, but now I want a 375 Ruger just to "wildcat" the case.
I think the case itself has much to offer a wildcatter, either smaller or bigger than 375, for instance how about a 7mm/375....ok I know, why not a 7mm Rem Mag right ??
My brother is doing something very different with his and I don't know what, somewhere between 400 and 470 I'm thinking.
That fine case just begs to be something different beside being opened to 416
perhaps 510 ?? :D

I don't use solids, so I don't know.

Send me a few, and I will load them and try it out for you.

I don't have .375" solids.. I was thinking on getting a Ruger .416 sometime in the future and I have .418"/375gr. FN mold that I think would be perfect in one of these little Rugers if it feeds...
My .358 Win. in a Ruger Frontier won't feed a 260gr. cast FN worth a crap...
I'll have to wait until someone gets a Ruger .416 and send them some FN bullets to try..
Thanks

other than to "do something different" there isn't going to be enough performance difference between a 270/7mm/30/338 based on the full length case and something that is already on the shelf...;)

The only store that sells ammunition where Pitdogboy lives is Canadian TIre and maybe Walmart. Neither of them have extensive ammunition lines. As factory ammunition and shipping ammunition is expensive, it woudl make more sense for me to just make some up for my protege.:p

ALL HAIL THE NEW KING!!

A magnificent attribute for pitdog's new rifle! ALL HAIL THE NEW SUCKER!

it's not impossible to get ammo. If I put my mind to it, I could dig some up without too much trouble, but it isn't going to come from CT. And he will be able to get ammo in the future, too. However, since he is a friend of mine, I'd be happy to make him some ammo...

It's funny that you say he is a "sucker" because ammo isnt' stocked at CT, but .375 H&H isn't stocked there either. Nor is .375 Weatherby, 375 RUM or any of the cool wildcats or slightly oddball cartridges that lots of people use, like 280AI, 358, 338-06, 35 Whelen, ...yadda yadda...

.375 H&H
338-06
35 Whelen
8 MM

All at the Red Deer Canadian Tire...no .375 Ruger

I was joking. Sheesh, didn't you see the huge dancing banana?

You sure are getting all testy and defensive all of a sudden. It's not because of the apparent unavailability of ammo for the new king, is it?;)

Testy? More like jovial.

I understand that it's hard to read emotions via intraweb, but I don't get testy when talking about the NEW KING, i get joy...

Hmmm.............looks like there might just be a prohecy here in "All Hail the New King"..............If you break the code it really says " All Bail from the Fake King"

The 375 Ruuger is starting to look alot like the jester from Don McLean's American Pie

I haven't been able to force myself to read all THIRTY-TWO PAGES (!) of this post, but here goes my two cents: CZ, Howa and anyone else who starts chambering these things do it for one reason only, i.e. because plenty of people believe that they need or want the newest/fastest/shortest/longest/lightest/shiniest/tacticoolest/biggest/smallest/fattest/thinnest/Godknowswhatelsest piece of marketing bulls**t to come down the pike. If you buy it, they will build it. Simple.

But here's the kicker: last year I finally made it to Africa, the dream hunting trip of my life. Due to my own screw-up, I arrived with my gun but no ammo. My rifle was a .375H&H (the EMPEROR of hunting cartridges and an integral part of my planning for the trip). No problem...both PH's that I hunted with, in two different countries, were able to provide premium quality ammunition with no fanfare or problems. Both expressed relief that I came with an appropriate weapon, rather than one chambered for "...the Weatherby or that ridiculous Ruger..." (a direct quote, and one at which I am still chuckling). These are men who hunt, and deal with hunters, for a living. Case closed.:)

I'm booked for Africa in April... H&H will be the round for me. Lower pressure, better extraction due to the massive taper (if you budge the H&H case just half a mm back, it's free of the chamber walls), 500% better ammo availability. As well, even in the case of Ruger, they make a better rifle for the H&H than the .375 Ruger, RSM vs. Hawkeye Africa/Alaskan, RSM takes that one hands down, it's a better (sturdier) action, not a speck of aluminum anywhere (steel floorplate), and features a better stock mounting system and the mother of all awesomeness it beholds; an integral sight rib. Oh, and yes, the name and nostaglia of the H&H matters to me, I have to admit. I still see it as the better cartridge.

Case closed if you only hunt in Africa. This is Canada. what PH's in Africa think is of no concern to most hunters here

The RUger has a greater case capacity, so should operate at lower pressures for the same performance, and just like all the other straight walled cartridges out there- extraction is not an issue.

INteresting how different guides view things differently. Phil SHoemaker is an Alaskan grizzly outfitter, and writes for a couple of magazines. His whole family guides, and they have bought an number of the RUger Alaskans as they find them perfect.

I mentioned somewhere back on this thread that an African PH was getting Darcy Echols to build him a $$$$ custom rifle chambered in .375 RUger. I woner if your PH's had every actually used the cartridge?:p
