The NEW KING of Scout Rifles

OK , you're weird . That's alright , so am I . I've always preferred hinged floorplates on hunting rifles , just a matter of familiarity I suppose . I've also lost a few mags over 40+ years . Not a reflection on the practicality of detachable mags , just on my habit of losing anything detachable .

Went to the range last week. Rifle mag was in my other bag. ####.

Still don't have a rifle w/hinged floorplate, but I can't help but think it's the ideal choice for a hunting rifle unless you jump in and out of the truck a lot...

You & me both. With detachable, and especially with high capacity mags, I guess they're handy if the likes of ISIS happens to be in the area of your hunt. Or,;) if you're trying to portray a 'tacticool' image.

Good point.

....... like armed conflict? :)

Any time you want to shoot a number of rounds without stopping to reload.

While a hinged floorplate is my favorite style for a standard hunting rifle, this isn't a standard hunting rifle. Some people have trouble understanding that.

If I am going to use a detachable magazine, I far prefer one that protrudes somewhat rather than a flush mounted one.

Its been done before . . .

with a superior cartridge. The .375 RUM will do anything the Ruger will do, and then some. What the .375 Ruger and the Ruger Alaskan rifle offered was a powerful rifle, that would stand up to hard use under harsh conditions, and was affordable on a working man's salary. Once you take "affordable" out of the equation, by espousing a name like Robar, you might as well chamber the piece in .375 RUM or better yet .378 Weatherby.

Oh, :) to clarify. I'm not complaining about the two Wby Blaze S-2's I purchased.:d No complaints there. Just sorry I decided to purchase the after market big clip set-ups to modify them with, that I  thought were a good idea at the time. Not one of my better moves.

Not to worry John, I enjoy shooting hinged floorplates (Browning A-bolts) and magazine rifles (Parker Hale Safaris).
I just couldnt convince myself to get one of those very rare flamed Weatherby VG'S.
Best Regards

Maybe we missed it. How many rounds does the rifle hold?
Iffen it is as gooder as it is purportedly touted it only needs one .
I wonder iffen it can shoot into space like a lazer beamed guitar?
Now that would be sumptin.

With that scope and mag setup it just looks awkward to carry.

"Awkward" is a good descriptor... my scout rifle experience goes back to the first runs of M77 MKII Frontier rifles in 2004/2005... I had half a dozen of them over the years and made several attempts at the "scout style" configuration, I did not like it, and for me, it was counter-intuitive, which is the exact opposite of what the concept was designed to achieve... admittedly, I was working against several decades of using rifles in the standard configuration. As far as the short Frontier rifles themselves go, I really liked the design, with it's short OAL, medium contour 16.5" barrel and hinged floor plate... they handle beautifully. My only remaining Frontier is a stainless .358, with scope mounted in the standard location and swapped into a full size MKII synthetic stock... if this rifle had the clunky box magazine of the Robar Dragoon Scout, I likely would not own it.

Same here, particularly at the gun range. And buying one after is never quite the same and expensive as hell! For hunting rifles they are great. You will never leave home without it. :)

2 problems with using those larger cartridges in this style of rifle- They won't fit, and ammo availability.

People often are worried about ammo availability. Due to the 375 Ruger being so much more popular than either 375 RUM and 378 WBY, 375 Ruger ammunition is easier to come by.

The Scout rifle concept has been around for a long time. Some people like the forward mounted scope, some don't. I've used a scout scope enough to know the concept works as intended, but still prefer a traditional mounted scope most of the time.

Rifles with Protruding magazines can be a bit different to carry than flush mounted magazines I suppose, but not truly awkward. Soldiers all over the world carry longer magazines in tough environments. Generations of Canadian deer and moose hunters carried rifles with similar magazines and seemed to manage fine. I don't find my Ruger Scout awkward to carry, and there are plenty of owners of those rifles. The Canadian Rangers have rifles with this style of magazines, too.

People have different preferences, some people will whimper about a magazine that sticks out a bit, some people enjoy using rifles equipped with such a magazine.

Everyone who doesn't agree with your magazine choice is "whimpering..."

You know, some just prefer "innies" and some, such as yourself, prefer "outties..."

I've carried my Ruger scout in some of the most rugged country, no issues here.

You finally got something correct- Kings don't concern themselves with the yapping of little dogs.

Even a blind squirrel finds a NUT occasionally...

The pompous monarchy are pretty out of touch with the reality of the functional world... "Let them eat cake... or shoot horse #### magazines! Whimpering fools!"
