The new Tikka T1X Rimfire

What don’t you like ?

Well let me start by saying, I've never owned or even shot a smaller caliber rifle, like a .22 or .17 that didnt have a wood stock, so I was use to having that bit heavier solid feel so upon handling the T1x it was super light, like a pellet gun so that threw me off. The hollowness of the butt was very apparent and in my opinion throws the balance off considerably., not use to this. As mentioned since I recently purchased the CZ 452 heavy barrel my comparisons are directly related, and the T1x has quite a lesser quality feel because of the stock. My first 10 minute impression probably was unfair now that I have had about an hour to look at it better, the action is very smooth, the trigger feels really nice and the finish on the action and barrel are also nice.

Couple things I do really like is how smooth the safety goes on and off and how the magazine doesn't just fly out upon unlatching. I definitely will put on a wood stock, I just prefer the feel and the weight it will add to help balance the gun. Just my opinion, I'm no expert by any means, I just know what I like and for me its the stock in this case that I'm not a fan of.

Sounds like a nice light carry rifle that I wont have to worry about smashing the wood on in the bush. I cant wait!

Honestly it will be right at home using it that way, you could carry this easily all day. My comments are strictly using for plinking, and as far as i know its never been marketed as such.

Glad your warming up to it! We’ve all had that feeling with a first impression on a firearm, some grow on you most end up on EE to fund another purchase :)

I added a bit of weight in the butt stock of my T3 Lite a few years ago, it improved the balance. The best improvement was the T3 Hunter stock I bought from a fine gentleman on the EE. It turned an accurate rifle into a good looking, well balanced accurate rifle.
I've also heard there's a walnut version of the T1x in the future.
Like Qmaze, I also have a 452 Varmint, so the T1x will have serious competition in my safe.
What Tikka excels at is smooth operation and quality of build, good triggers, and hopefully nail-driving accuracy. The problem with rimfire accuracy is the ammunition that's available, what's good and how much we're willing to pay for it.

I have been on the preorder list as soon as it came out...Just started building a Savage FV-SR for PRS matches as I am tired of waiting . I will still keep the Tikka when it comes though ..lol

Has anyone taken or seen one of these outside of its stock?
I would really like to see some pictures of the action without the stock.
