The new Tikka T1X Rimfire

So this stock is not a true drop in, there is going to be a bit of work to get it perfect but all mods will be inside the stock, the fitment of the action itself is perfect. It fits on the lug really well, how ever I ordered the bull barrel inletting and due to the barrel taper I will be bedding the entire stock to get the fitment like a factory stock. Action and bottom plate are to tight to drop in due to the magazine and bottom plate inner flange so minor shaping will be needed, the most attention will be around the mid barrel support and inlet to fit the gap. And for those wondering the Boyds to my CDN door was $450.

How bad are the gaps and how much shaping of the bottom plate is needed?

Thanks!

The only gap issue I have right now is on the barrel inletting because i chose the bull inletting. should have just let it be a regular barrel. There are these slight bolsters inside preventing the bottom plate and action from seating and is only due to the magazine, shouldn't require much to fit. My barrel issue will be taken care of visually with an inside cover either 3D printed or machined aluminum.

Thank you very much for the reply. Do you know how the barrel contour compares to the t3x ctr? Is the diameter at the crown similar or does the barrel taper off to a small diameter then the ctr?

Thanks again

My first Tikka so unfortunately can't give a definite answer but from looking at other Tikka videos and the fact it fits in T3x stocks, my guess would be very close to the taper because it fits nice in the front part of the stock. The T1x has a plastic mount in front of the lug that is a separate piece and affixed to the factory stock with a screw so it takes up some of the taper. I may incorporate into the Boyds possible.

Thanks again for the info.

Maybe its the same barrel profile as the tikka CTR. Both are described as medium heavy. I think the T3X varmint is the heavy barrel profile, which may or may not be thicker then the CTR? I guess time will tell which stocks fit best.

I have to say with a high quality file it took very little time to massage the stock to get sa perfect fit. Took my time until it just slide in.

Looks real nice. Bet it shoots well too.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the band on the barrel just above the bipod?

Thanks very much, now that its settled in properly, the barrel gap isnt as bad as I thought and merely will require a small 3D cover just for aesthetics in the inlet. I am going to try and add that little plastic support form the factory barrel and do some small amount of bedding but that about it. Then wait for DIP to make the picatinny rail and scope it.

So it doesn't accept a standard T3 scope rail? It is proprietary?

Ellwood Epps had a couple come in but are now sold. Its frustrating to see these up for sale at different dealers when I paid for mine in full in a preorder in January with a different company. Hope they get more here soon !
