The New Winchester Model 71s Are Finally Here!

I had this problem with my 45-90. I was told to degrease the firing pin real good. I did and it still missfired. I'm going to bring it to a gunsmith. I was told that the problem wasn't the rifle, it was my reloads. Apparently, I seated my primers too deep? How far out do you want your primers to protrude in a tubular magazine?

I still love the rifle but will need to have some work done. It's a shame to have to do that on a $1,500 rifle, though.

I intend on keeping mine stock. I'll probably pick up a 1" leather sling, something resembling the originals but I think that'll be it. I have an original Standard that's in nice shape with a steel Redfield peep sight on it so I'll probably keep hunting with that one. I still haven't taken the sticker off the barrel or even wiped the grease off it yet. I shrink wrapped the box for it and put it up in the suspended ceiling for safe keeping. I have a couple of rifles in my safe that I haven't had time to even mount a scope on yet. Been too busy with hockey, swimming and work to stop and play.

I am now the proud owner of my first model 71, but I didnt get the new Winchester. I just bought the Browning High Grade model 71 carbine (20") made back in the mid '80's. Brand new in the box. I dont know of a nicer looking lever action out there. This has been on my list to rifles to buy for years. It will never make it to the range or out for a moose hunt like any rifle should but it will look awesome the once or twice a year that I pull it out of the safe.
Once I'm back home. I'll have to take some time to set myself up with a picture hosting website so I can post some photos.

:)Welcome to the club. There was an original Winchester 71 Deluxe, very similar to mine, floating around at the previous couple of gun shows in Duncan. I'd estimate it was about 90% but I didn't see it at the show there today.

I'd like to say that if you come across it again please get his name and number and PM me, but my bank account needs to be replensihed with some more fun money first. So many rifles to buy and so little money to do it with. I really do need (want) one that I can take north in October, or at least to the range.

I think the Brownings are nicer than the original Winchesters, anyhow.

My late Brother had a Browning 71 and years ago I bought him a Winchester 71 for his birthday, he felt that the Browning was a better shooter than the Winchester. Having shot both of his rifles, I think he was right.
As for nicer, I have to disagree, in my opinion my original 71 Deluxe is much nicer than any Browning 71 That i've handled.
For the longest time I felt that my 1886 Browning was nicer than an original '86, that is, until I got to fondle / handle a gorgeous original '86.
