Don't forget that the .275 H&H uses a .287" vs the standard .284" bullet.
Still think the .300 H&H is a fantastic choice. You can get ~2900 fps with a 200gr Partition. At 4000' elevation that would give you a 290 yard PBT on a 6" target. That covers the goats. You also could do worse on bigger stuff as those 200gr Partitions just plain work!
Far, far less traditional but an itch I just had to scratch is the 7mm Weatherby Magnum. Nice, long case neck, high quality brass, high SAAMI pressure and mild recoil seem to be a good combo. I am just working up some loads on mine - according to Norma's data the 160gr Partition should be around 3200 fps when using MRP powder. That puts your PBR at almost 320 yards.
Edit:
I should also mention that the .270 and 150gr Partition with RL26 is a fantastic combination. My wife's 22" barreled T3 Superlight does just under 3000 fps with this setup. I was at the range about a month ago to make sure everything is ok and shot a sub 1" group with it at 200m (219 yards).
