What to chamber the Oberndorf in?

Ardent- what a combination- rebated rim AND headspace on case mouth. You don’t think you are asking for trouble? Or is that the challenge you need?

What about .495 A-Square? Or .550 Express? That gives you cheap, but high quality .460 Wby brass to work with and a belt for headspace, not to mention enough length in magazine box.

This project got too weird for me. Too much hassle and you'll end up using your 375 anyways.

I'd be sticking with the lightweight 9.3x57 idea.

I'm still liking the .275 H&H and I think it still has a shot once, Angus comes off this bender... ;)

Not relevant to this thread really but since you posted the pic of the 577 bullet werent you at one time going to sleeve a sxs shotgun to make a poormans 577 at one time? What ever happened to that project?

About this current project how are you going to stock this beast? Light and trim and hope it doesnt snap when you shoot or around 12 to 15lbs and hope you dont have to carry it to far for your intended game?

Barnes 750gr .577 and a .375 H&H case for scale. 9.3 Mauser kindly sold me brass for the project, thank you.

Wow, that looks...
- Expensive
- Painful
- and a whole lot of fun...

Africa, Australia, amusement. Client loaner rifle. :p And always wanted to see if heavy and moderate can be as effective as speed on bears, same for if bore size has much of an effect. To date my experience has been no on bears, and I attack clients’ suggestions of .45-70s with questionable fervour. This would be rather definitive on heavy and moderate, and remove and questions for me. And be a great deal of fun in so doing.

Yep, never got excited about that one and it sat at the machinist who was supposed to thread my .577 barrels for my monoblock for over a year and half. Figured I’ll pick it up and change gears. No I’d like 10lbs and carryable, gun’s all about fun, and would like to field it a bit if I build it. I ordered a Zastava Mauser I may well build it on if hoyt’s right about where my heart and sobriety is at, as I’m too curious now.

I like how different it is, and how it will squeak into a standard action yet be the utter largest thing that could. Rebated won’t be an issue as it’s center feed, and not concerned with the case mouth headspace as it works well for the B&Ms.

A 577 Morrison in a a stainless zastava would make a pretty neat west coast gun. Seems a bit risky to alter a large banner Mauser in such a way that it may not be recoverable, if you decide you don’t like the 577.

You ARE a "wild & crazy guy!" (Said with a bad Rodney Dangerfield impersonation)

Ordered a second bolt to open up and feed rails surprisingly don’t appear to need modification to switch to center feed / single stack. Can always switch back, but more likely if I retreat it will be to a .500 Jeffery. Which is a pretty classy and classic M98 place to end up in itself. Or, may just may build the Zastava in .577 to play with the idea, and spend even more money doing two Mauser projects. That seems likely too.

Right back atcha big guy :d We make a fine team.

.577 / .375

I sure like the .577 rimless concept & hope it works out well. Ye won't have to load 'er very hot pressure wise & if ye use a 750 gr hard cast boolit (18-20 BHN) pushed at around 1500 fps, you'll not have to worry much on recoil in a 10 lb rifle. Penetration on heavy critters ain't a worry with a well placed shot in close quarters.

Meself on the other hand, is going the 12 bore rifle route using .731" hard cast 825 gr boolits in a Savage 212 & a Rem 870 with a Hastings Paradox barrel.
Da bomb next to me 375 Win load.
