The next little thing

I wouldn't charge you a dime... I'd just see we got two made when we got to that stage :)

My buddy can make anything, does it professionally!

Regardless of skill, I am not sure you are permitted to manufacture a receiver without the appropriate license.

 Why not build a .22 cheetah and launch 50 gr projectiles at 4300?......

Won't fit. ;) 60grs and up is the idea and not that the Cheetah wouldn't be amazing at either 60 or 70! Or Douglas' .22-284...

Sounds like you are re-inventing the .22 savage Hi-Power (maybe trimmed a little).. Newton would be pleased

Very fair point, always good to please the late greats' ghosts. I've ditched Elmer's apparition for Roy in more recent times however.

Sounds like a fun project, the l'il Hagn is a sweet choice. The 5.6x50mag is an interesting notion for it as well. When I started reading, I wondered about that action as a choice, right off the bat, it was a "first thing that popped into the bean" for a concept idea. How do you get the stock dims to work for you, and keep the weight restriction? That'll likely take some experimenting.

Hey, I still read OL!

One big plus to Hoyt'a argument is you can hunt anywhere with a .257, not so with a .224. I'm good at home with .224 but I do like to travel. ;) And I still have a 1-9 .257" Krieger downstairs.

Fair enough angus....... but just for input....... I can hunt everything anywhere with my 257 Roberts........ within your set parameters of course......

Variety is indeed the spice of life....... and I look forward to your build...... especially the final weight...

Yea there would be some serious reduction required there in all dimensions.

Stock's going to be a challenge. Right now I'm thinking proper foam core wet bagged composite but will likely do a balsa core glass to see if it works, build it like a sailboat hull. Too easy and cheap not to try once, would be really slick if I could steam a nice walnut veneer to make the curves and glass over that, wouldn't be easy without an English grip... but that's what winter camp evenings are for.

Yeah, like a year overdue! Darn kids, hey?

And somehow a third is well on its way, not sure what's causing it.

Except the weight, and big fan of the .257 Roberts here too!

I'd take the 25 over the 22 any day. However I have a love for the 257

As for speed over diameter would you use a 22-250 or a 45/70 for bison? Roughly same energy. You have experienced hunting and shooting them

Either way you go I'd like to see and read about the results

Must be something in the air... legs!

If you're talking about my wife, it better be *your* kid. I went to see doctor snippyhands, and I wouldn't want to raise some stranger's kid.

Seriously: Hey, that's great news! Congratulations!

Honestly if it was physically possible to launch a 400gr .224" I'm pretty confident there would be no difference in lethality between it and a 400gr .458. :)

Be curious about the stock and how durable it would prove to be. Goat country = unsure footholds = broken gear

Yea some hockey tape and a pack of JB weld would be in the pack first couple times. They build aircraft I have to fly out of the stuff now certain a decent stock can be made. Won't be surprised if it takes a few iterations.

You're safe, I'm not out of the bush enough to help you out with another!

About the stock, I'd imagine a dainty splinter fore-end and a compact butt piece would still be ok. Consider this 2.2 lb double barrel .22 Hornet:

A Peter Hofer .22 Hornet double along with a McKay Brown round action are two guns I'd like before I die.
